Default Another Big Thanks to SlowHawk!

As scheduled the parts were at Don's shop today... I awoke from my sleep and got the email so I headed to the shop to pick everything up.

Monster Stg. 3 clutch.. Green of course:

QuickTime Bellhousing:

Had to grind a little bit to make the bellhousing and block plate fit.. not a huge deal got that done today:

If the weather holds tomorrow I should have it all buttoned up... I'll of course post pictures of the new parts all in the car with the remote bleeder!

Josh- Once the clutch is broken in and we get together we'll go for a blast in the GTO!

Here's a link to a full write-up for the Bellhousing install for any GTO guys that may be interested. I imagine the install would be similar on the F-body as well... but who knows!

Here's the rest of the install with Pics:

I ended up having to take off the shifter to get the transmission back in without getting hung up on the Driveshaft safety loop or tunnel. I wrestled with it for a while and without a transmission jack I couldn't find the perfect angle to get it back in. It's all said and done for today. Tomorrow I will put the shifter and the exhaust back on, then bleed the clutch one last time before lowering it off the jack stands.

nice. So are you saying you were able to drop the trans in under 2.5hrs? My stage 3 should be here on Saturday and I plan on trying to get the install done in one day on my own. Did you use a trans jack?

You got it, just under 2.5 hours to jack the car up, pull the cat-back, unbolt the loop from my DS safety loop, take out the driveshaft, drop the transmission, pull the bellhousing, clutch, flywheel and put my tools away.
Putting it all back in was a differnent story. Clutch assembly and new Bellhousing/scatter shield was easy, getting the tranny back in took me some extra time.... I hate Not having a transmission jack!

Good luck on your install!

Impressive job Todd! Ever think of picking up a tranny jack head piece to fit on your jack? I think they're only around $50 and would certainly help out if there's a next time.

Thanks Mike.

I have looked into them but just haven't bought one yet. I keep telling myself to hold off and just buy a full sized one for when I have a house with a big garage and a lift.... whenever that will be. LoL

I got the rest of it buttoned up this morning. New silicone on the shifter base, shifter reinstalled, my custom threaded lever refinished and painted, cat-back reinstalled and flanges siliconed as well to prevent a terrible exhaust leak I had, clutch bled again (tickshift speed bleeder worked great, crack it open, top off resevoir, pump a couple times, close the speed valve and top off the resevoir again) then I took the car down off the jack stand and just shifted the transmission a few times... Fresh Amsoil.....oohh so smooth!

Waiting till this evening to take it for a drive so the silicone can set up a bit... I will post a review once I get a few miles on the clutch!

Nicely done, definately a sense of accomplishment after all that work. I can't work on these cars on my back, I'd go insane!

I don't know how some of you guys do it!

Thanks.

That's for sure. I love the feeling when the car fires back up and I can go for a ride after a few hours of tinkering around with it! Working under the car on your back isn't always too bad as long as you have the tools to make things easier, but a lift is definitely the way to go.... Someday!
