for a hobby you can only write off up to what you win. you can't claim a "loss" like a business.

If the vehicle is registered commercial and you have recipts to prove it was all intalled you may have a chance. Or if you have recipts saying it "was intalled in your work vehicle" then its possible.

I wouldn't try and slip anything past the IRS in these tough times. All those new agents they hired have to justify their pay some how
