Well Im a diehard Flyers fan and Im surprised they even won the series against Jersey yet alone do it in 5 games- didnt think Boucher was up to the task. I really cant see them getting out of the next round, esp without Gagne and Carter. It is nice to see guys like Carcillo, Lappy, and Betts playing with tsuch heart.

You are misinformed. Hockey is very popular in several area markets in which more TV's are tuned to hockey games rather than NBA games. Also, attendance has not suffered. For example the Penguins have sold out (as of April 14th) 159 straight home games. Roughly 17,123 people per game.
Also: "The Pittsburgh Penguins set a new team record for television ratings with an 8.17 rating on FSN Pittsburgh in 2009-10 – a 17 percent increase over last season’s record rating of 6.98."
Ratings in the south are not as good. Teams in the sunbelt are not doing well because hockey isn't built for the south.
TLDR - You are not correct in assuming people do not enjoy hockey. There are plenty of areas where hockey is a mainstream sport.
