I dd my Z when its nice out . I have a Yank SS4000 .Its not too bad ,but I also have 373s .Personaly ,I think the 4000 stall is a little loose for a stock engine because of the shift extension . But I purchased it with intentions of doing a nice cam in it ,,, soon . So it fits the bill Im looking for .If you race a couple of times a year I would take a good look at the 4k .
Also I go through the traps @ 6000 in drive ( 3rd gear ) . So I think it might be too much if I had N20 .

GF daily drives a 3600SS. Honestly it annoys the hell out of me. She doesn't mind. Doesn't help that she only has a bullet for a muffler. It reminds me a metro bus taking off from a stop everytime the car has to go up a hill. I wouldn't go larger for a true DD. Weekend toy or occasional DD to work and such sure. But if this is your only means of transportation that **** gets old fast.
Her car has headers, high flow cats, and a borla bullet. 3.42 gear.

I think a good tune can help, if the converter locks up and the car drives like it's mild mannered it makes it decent.
I'm quite picky; I'm surprised alot of people feeling 4000 is a tad much. Nothing wrong with that I'm used to "your a *****, get a 7000 rpm converter".

old LS1 had an ss3600 and i didnt even notice it after 2 days of buying the car, it also had 3.73 gears and a good tune. current car has a vig 3000 behind a bigger motor and it drives nearly the same (underrated converter). worst case scenario is you get a 3600, get used to it and want more, you can send it back for a restall.

My 4000 would lock up at 38 mph.
City driving would suck ***, everyone thinks they get city mpg driving in the suburbs. To me driving in the suburbs shows close to your highway mpg. When I lived in the city I never got above 25 mph. Driving in the suburbs....25 mph and someone is going to plow into the back of your car. Even the main streets move around 35 mph or more.
