That is so gay.. only a 100 feet. What a waist of time and money doing that. Now I'm glad I sold my car. Fu3k Long Island and the asssholes who live out east there who keep shooting down a 1/4 mile track. I'm sure they will be in the stands laughing their asses off over this 100 foot bs

Long Island at one time had three drag strips.
Islip 1/8 mile operated from 1963 - 1970.
NY National operated from 1966 - 1980 considered to be one of the premier drag strips on the East coast. Old timers tell me that if you got eliminated in the first round at National you could get in at the Hamptons and continue racing since they were only 10 minutes away from each other!
West Hampton operated from 1953-2004 One of the oldest drag strips on the East coast.
Think of the 100 foot drags as a car show that you get to burn out and test your skill cutting a good light.
Riverhead Raceway saw the success that the 100 foot drags at their sister tracks and decided to tap into the big drag racing market that exists here on LI.
With that said LI drag racers are tired on going to NJ/PA is race. The time and expense is too much.
A huge turnout at these scheduled events will show the Riverhead Town that their is a market for a 1/4 mile drag strip.
The EPCAL property is currently being sub divided by the Riverhead Town board. They are considering putting a drag strip as part of their redevelopment of the property. They understand the dollars a motorsports facility can bring to their town. A developer has already approached the Riverhead Town board with a proposal.
If you do not want to race come down and show your support in bringing a 1/4 mile drag strip back to LI.

They've been talking about building a variety of racing and/or entertainment complexes at Grumman for as long as I can remember. Last I heard a few years ago, Trump was supposed to buy it up and build an oval, road course and a casino or something. As much as I'd love to see that happen on the East End, I just don't see it happening.

I’m the first one to say a 1320 in Calverton will probably not happen. Having said that I’m going to go out to all of these events and either participate or spec Tate and show whoever is watching that they need to build a track. I’ll stand around and beat this dead horse into the dirt. Atco is a long way from home and one race day costs about $500. I could save more than half of it by racing right here on Long island.
Until they build something else there is a possibility it could go our way.

I agree that 100' drag racing is quite goofy but if it sends a positive message in getting a track opened again out on the Island then it's worth it.
Made my first drag strip pass EVER at that track back in the early summer of 1989.
I used to drive by that oval track in Riverhead back when I used to spend part of my summers out in the Hamptons.

I agree that this is a test to see if there is a market for drag racing on L.I. I loved the hamptons make a bunch of passes on a friday and then go home without paying a toll.

I remember it being like $45.00 for test & tune on Sundays which at the time I'd thought was crazy high. But it was often quite empty and you could run all day almost like a track rental, $45.00 is damn cheap for a track rental type atmosphere.
