Default Anyone have a bad back?

I've had bad back pain for the past couple months. Xray showed 2 fractures in the L5 vertabrae. A follow up MRI showed a ruptured disc below the L5 and a bulging disc hitting the nerves between the L4 and L5.

I go in for a Cortisone consultation tomorrow. I'm concerned with having a needle shoved in my back, I only trust a few people (Zturd, MikeP, Fran, Venomous-V, AJ and his Garage) to shove things in my back side.

Any personal experience with this type of stuff?

I split my time between desk and the lab. Unfortunately I do spend a large amount of time staring at a computer screen these days. I get to shoot things every once in a while still, but not nearly as much as before.

I had a shot for a bulging L5 myself. It only took me one shot and some physical therapy to make mine better. I still have back pain from time to time but nothing like it was.

It is a little un nerving with them sticking a monster needle that close to the spine though. You won't feel the needle just alot pressure.

L4 L5 no fractures only slight bulge(but almost always feel pressure) and Piriformis syndrome.<<<<Thats the kicker and causes the most pain and some awesome muscle issues..I had nerve testing done once to see it there was any nerve damage (never want to have that done again...) Im not a fan of Cortisone injection since they just mask the pain......

Thanks for the input guys, I'm just getting anxious thinking about it.

The bulging disc is bad, but that ruptured disc is causing monstrous pain. I can't sleep, can't function at work, and the only thing that masks the pain currently is 2 Oxycodones. I don't like taking the pain killers but I become nauseated if I don't.

Hugely intefering with my work and my life. I'm praying that the injection masks it long enough to allow me to get a workout regimen started. Right now I can't do anything.

I don't have time to read everyone's posts, so if I'm saying anything redundant excuse me. I have a bad back.... fractured my L5S1 vertebrae.....had sciatica symptoms and ****........and a herniated T8-T9. cortisone is mandatory for your lumbar problem.... trust me on this... u will feel a million times better. I couldn't walk so I don't know if u were as bad as me. I just received my second cortisone shot for my upper back and i'm gonna see if pain is alleviated in a few days. cortisone is a bitch. definitely does not feel good. but if your doctor is good you willl only feel the local anesthetics and won't feel the cortisone.. make sure you're not sick b4 injections and take it easy.. If I can go back a few years ago I wouldn't have pushed myself as much when recovering.

My brother had some fractured lower vertebrae and nothing worked for him, so he had back surgery to fuse them together. He's not 100% but he's 1000x better than he was before the surgery.

fell of some scaffolding a few years back, screwed my back up pretty good. To the point where taking deep breathes was almost impossible.

Cortisone is your friend I didn't even feel that needle, then again needles and that kinda stuff doesn't bother me.

Agree w/ AJ, light workout for your back will help too.

along with working your back out take a strong look into your sleeping arrangement....you wouldnt beleive just how much your bed effects the back. i had lower back pain when i was younger but changed my bed a few times untill i found 1 that suited me. now a days i wake up virtually with no pain. im no where near as bad as some of you guys are but in my experiance the right bed did wonders for me and im sure can only help you in the long run...especially if you have that much going on.. goodluck.

Working out to strengthen back and abnominal muscles will help, as will losing weight if you're overweight.
If you have a ruptured disc in time the nucleus pulposis (liquid in the center of the disc) that has herniated out of the disc will get absorbed and "dry up" and that may releive the pressure on those nerves.
Give it time, the injection along with physical therapy and strengthening those muscles should help alot. Good luck.
