Its that time of the year......
Heres my thoughts on the team. The teams biggest issues IMO are in this order:
-#5 hitter in the line up
-Brad Lidge
-Bench players.
Was Jayson Werth the end all be all guy, ...NO not at all, but having a leginimate right handed power hitter go from a HEAVY left handed lineup is a big loss no matter what ppl say. Will either Victorino or Rollins fill in that position, sure but keep in mind, when Werth was being dominate, it made Howards job easier b/c its a double edged sword to the opponent on who to pitch to. Now that We have a question mark in that position, Howard IMO is going to struggle, unless he just changes his ways and has a monster year regarless whos behind him.
I for one would not change the utley/howard 3/4 in the line up but if Dom comes up big, thats 4 straight leftys in a row with Utley, Howard, Brown and Ibanez. This is going to be a HUGE issue for our team.
Secondly, Brad lidge has lost velocity, yes, but if Jamie Moyer can teach him anything, its about location and timely pitching more than how fast you can pitch. so as long as he can do that, he should be good. He still has a dominate slider when he is on and NOBODY can deny that.
Bench, well besides Valdez and Fransisco/Brown, I think we are alittle short on depth, but I am not too sure on some newbies that could arrise so I dont think thats a huge issue, but it can be if injuries come into play.
And as for the pitching, I do not care if we have 4 potential cy young winners, last year of all years showed Philly that its not only pitching that wins championships. Yes, without a doubt in my mind, Giants were a ''on paper'' worse team than the Phillies, but they had timely hitting and dominiate pitching. You gotta remember, we had 3 solid number ones and still lost. Adding Lee will make us a shoe in for the WS? No not at all. Yes ppl say defense wins championships, but in order for the pitching to win, you need to score runs.
I know they will win 100 games, mark my word, but being healthy is always a issue. The wainwright thing is a prime example of that. And lastly, I would take the Phils rotation over any rotation every day of the week. They are the best pitching staff on paper and will prove it. And if getting a vibe off the tv shows they have amongst each other, they all push each other to be better, so I truely believe that a Phillie will be a Cy young winner, and two others will be in the top 5 for it too.
And just for ***** and giggles, anyone seen this yet? I died when i saw it

Werth is still crying and his focus is more on the Phillies than being a National.
My bet, his numbers won't be as good as they were last year.
Hell, if I were a Nationals fan, I'd boo him too for all the crap he's said. Talk about sour grapes.
