Why don't they run powerlines under ground

because its slightly over a million per mile to run underground!!!
you need to invest in a generator...i bought one in the ice storm a few years back..excellent purchase. now i like when it goes out so i can use it...runs right into my panel

Do have a generator but I need to use it for my car next week. And even with a generator your talking big cash to keep it fueled up for weeks at a time.
So as normal money talks as long as the higher ups are getting there millions screw the little guy

well who is going to fork out the money to put everything underground? i certainly dont want that bill or my taxes to go up even more to offset the costs. and we all know damn well the government wont do it. let me tell you another reason, it because its alot more costly to repair underground faults, costs more to extend service to a road/street that currently does not have power, and right of way is always an issue. who wants the company to come onto your property to dig it all up looking for a problem because the development up the street from you have some bad voltage? i can go on and on lol....ask me how i know

The ONLY wires that can be seen on telephone poles are those
thin telephone wires...

We have them where i live in illinois. Its nice and everything looks better. There is a cement cylinder where the transformer is so if it goes bad easy fix never had anything go wrong.

my parents house in northeast massachusetts (danvers) is a relativley new neighborhood with the power lines underground. the power went out there every time there was a lightning storm. you dont have to have an actual line go down for the power to go out.
