Default Dyno Tune

Anyone heard of a shop called Cartex in NJ? if so any feed back, they charge 450 for a tune...this is what they offer for 450 is it worth it???

(This carries all the same features as the Basic tune, but all tuning is done on our fully data acquisitioned Dynojet Dyno. At this tuning level we use our expertise to correctly interpret the reading from our data acquisition and dynamometer readings to fully customize you fuel and timing maps for optimal street or track performance. The Custom dyno tune is the method of choice for getting the most out of your mods such as extensive bolt on modifications, cam installs, heads and cam, and stroker motors. Some clients even choose to go this route on their 100% stock vehicles to get back what the factory left behind.)

Same as we charge for a stockish car but we do a full street tune followed by dyno.

Agreed, 450$ is what I normally see, any of these fine sponsors will take care of you. Hell Slowhawk helped me out without even asking and he was in no way was required to do so.

Most places also will help with follow ups, cleaning up driveability if needed. But that is based on the owner.

We charge 350 for a bolt on dyno tune. 500 for an internally modded set up and 600 for a Maf FI Tune. 450 is in the right area. People dont understand that a 40k dollar dyno and 80k invested into the HP Tuners cable and shop expenses that arent cheap... Shops could also be tuning your 20k dollar engine. Its funny when people will have 25k into their engine but pick someone whos tune is 100 bucks cheaper.

We do $300 for dyno tunes followed by a full street tune (there is no substitute for the street). We have a bit lower overhead than the rest of the shops here, as we're much smaller. I've been tuning the LS engines since my college days - 2006. Opening a 2000 sq ft location in June 2010.

But as Fran said, its not just time for tuning, its also the investment in the shop. A dyno costs big bucks. The programming software costs money. Learning how to program correctly takes time and money. And as your shop grows, so does your overhead. Employees, taxes, insurance, rent, supplies, etc. Many big shops are big because they've been doing something right for a long time - and they have a right to charge for it.
