Question GEARS 3.42 upgrade 3.73

So i was wondering is it worth upgrading from 3.42 to 3.73. Would this be worth the $$$$$$$$$$$$.....

depends on the setup. We have no idea of what you even have or whats done to it.

Either you have a M6 car with stock gears or a A4 car with a swapped rear/gear. So either ways any increase in the rear end gear ratio will help. Like said, how much depends on the set up. A better gear for a M6 car is 4.10-4.30's where as A4 cars seem to hit a sweet spot between 3.73 to 4.10.

Again this all depends on what your doing and where your going to end up power wise and race weight. Also to note a A4 car will see more in the converter vs the gearing. In the end it will all come out in the wash but just something to chew out.

You need to define your plan.

what BSM said above ^ is your car a stick ( my assumption) or an auto ?

what is in place for mods , what power level you hoping for in the near future?

another thought is if your going to mod it and we are talking about gearing the stock 7.5 " rear end behind a stick car realize that the lower ( higher numerically) you go with the gears the thinner the ring gear gets - you see a lot of broken 3.73/4.10 7.5 rears behind stick cars

if by chance you do have an auto the right convertor will drop you 1/2 sec + 3.73's will not...

What I did was buy a used rear end with 3.73s (or if you can find 4.10s). They typically run ~$300. That way you have an extra you can throw in when you blow up the one you have.

300$ for a rear with swapped gears is a steal. I was selling stockers for at least 300-350 all day.

Also S-10's had the same type of rear and if you pull the gears out, they are all 3.73's Which is an improvement for guys with A4's Not sure if the case is exact due to suspension points but something to think about.
