What mod first?
I have a bone stock 2000 ws6 ready to build. I have full boltons sitting in the garage waiting to go in (lid, bellow, kooks long tubes, kooks 3inch true dual off road x, with the panhard relocation kit.).
My goals for the car are 100% street manors, built motor (408 Or ERL 427) and a d1 procharger setup. Most likely work will be done at RPM.
I haven't had much track experience, but want to get into it as a hobby on weekends.
The car is an Auto and I def want overdrive. The question is what is the first step if I have roughly 4,000 for the first big mod? Trans, rear, motor?
Sorry for spelling this is being done on a phone.
Thanks,
Nick

install all your bolt ons , then do a quality convertor 3500-4000 stall and a nice heads cam & tune and spare wheels with DR's , that should eat up your 4 grand
if your really going to end up doing a stroker with a procharger though your going to need a built rear and built trans to handle that type of power on top of engine and procharger costs.
better get a much larger budget like 20,000
then since you mention track with all this theoretical hardware on weekends add another stack of cash for safety equipment at that power level the list will start with a full cage , race suit , harnesses, fuel cell/fuel system to support the power your making....
guys end up with 40-50k in their car pretty quickly by the time they do all you are mentioning- maybe start with my advice for your 4grand and see if you are having fun before blowing the big money ???

Thanks, yea I am ready for the motor and d1 to be huge chunks of cash. That's why I am leaning towards a rear and stall (hoping to stay around 4k) for this first round of mods.
Hopefully by spring someone will buy my Harley I have for sale and that could fun short block or trans.
Can I run drag radials safely on the stock rear with the head cam power you think?

My advice would be plan for the long run and spend money once! In other words, if you want that kind of power and an overdrive, go to a 4L80E conversion right off - don't waste money on a built 4L60E and converter that will never hold the power you will make in the end (though some will claim they will)... Same with other supporting mods - spend money once with your end goal in mind, even if it means waiting and saving up the money...
That said, I would go with a rearend first (that will need done no matter what else you do). Then the trans/converter. You can put the exhaust on at any time, since you have it, do that now too...
Most people don't want to spend money in those areas because it doesn't make the car go faster or sound better... don't fall into the trap of buying performance parts that break or don't work with an otherwise stock car...

Can't go wrong with a Mid West Chassis 9" rear.
What kind of Harley are you trying to sell? I am in the market for one. I also have a 454 shortblock for sale if you are interested in trading.

No, go with a posi. With a spool on the street, you will just eat up tires going around turns. For what you want, a nice 31 spline axle and posi unit 9" will hold up great.

I put a 12 bolt Strange in mine ($2,800), but it was before he started promoting the fabbe'd 9's, otherwise I would have went that route myself.
