PA - LS Miata swap question for PA members.
For those of you that have done a LSX swap (into anything that did not come with an LS) have you done the “Enhanced Safety Inspection” PenDOT requires? If so how did it go? I would like to do a LS Miata swap and would use the less than 5000 miles per year variance for emissions inspection, but I just found out about the requirement that if any vehicle is “Modified” it needs a Enhanced Safety Inspection and just wondering what’s involved.
Thanks

enhanced inspection is normally for rebuilds if it has a salvage title before they issue a r title. if you have a miata with a clean title you shouldn't have to worry about it. if your inspection agent is telling you need it or got to go through the proccese find a new guy. your annual is all you should need. you will need to have cats and the check engine light works for the most part but less then 5k no emissions are needed i think they just are required to do the gas cap check

emissions goes by the vehicle not the engine
if your under 5K in ONE CALANDER YEAR you get a sticker.
if your over 5k it will get a gas cap test and OBDII test.
gas cap fails no sticker, check engine light on no sticker, check engine light fails bulb check no sticker, code P1000 no sticker
