Default Possibly moving to DE- Question

Hey guys, I have an 01 ws6 with longtubes, catless y pipe, and straight pipes. I was wondering what emissions testing is like there now? Here in Az they just hook into the obd2 port. No sniffer, no visual. What are the inspections in delaware like? No codes either btw.

They plug in to the OBDII, no sniffer, so if you have no check engine lights you will be good. However, they do visually check for cats, so that might be an issue. I am about to run mine through in the next couple of weeks with long tubes and bullet cats. Hopefully, i do not have any issues.

I was afraid of that. I've gotten used to the lax emissions here in Arizona. I guess I'll have to fab up 2 fake cats or something. Let me know how it goes.

Mine passed with longtubes and a catless y pipe. However I did have my corsa catback behind them. The inspector I had never looked for cats, but I'm not sure if having straight pipes will make them want to look twice or not.

I'm dreading having to go back through this year now that I'm cammed and the car makes a lot more noise than it did with just the exhaust work.

I may put my muffler back on, and with a few cut outs, route a pipe around the muffler to bypass it.

I have a 224/228 cam, arh catted y long tube header GMMG exhaust 2000 SS and I passed earlier this year after I figured how to beat it. They did not plug me into anything just sniffer test in the tailpipe. No visual cat inspection either. I did use a bottle of isopropyl alcohol in 1/4 tank and major key helped me was holding my rpms just over the 1000 mark using double sided tape on throttle body stop as a shim. I went to Georgetown dmv as I live down towards Lewes area. As far as lights go my Silverado engine light been on for several inspections & always passes. Maybe more strict upstate?

Yeah, if you move to Sussex County you get the sniffer instead of the OBD & visual test. If you fail, get $200 in "repairs". If you fail after that you can get a waiver.

Pretty much. Some inspectors are better than others, and will let minor things slide. I've had a few friends who ended up getting an actual car guy for an inspector and they're a little more lenient about things they can look the other way on. Luck of the draw though :/

If you've just got an exhaust (no cam) then you should be fine. My GTO passed with catless mids and longtubes. Used to have a 09 Cobalt SS with a 3" straight pipe off the turbo and all you could smell was gas. It passed too.

Thats the one thing i dont miss about back east. Every time i had to have my ORY taken off, and s catted one put on for testing. Out here they just plug into the obdii port. Its obvious i have aftermarket exhaust work done, but i pass every time..no visual, no sniffer. I have a catless downpipe on my 14 veloster turbo. You can smell the gas more on it, but no codes either

It will come down to the shop doing the inspection, in most cases you will be fine if you pass the OBD2 scan. Visual portion really is just for "safety equipment," like brakes, lights, wheels and such. In most cases is "Computer said it's fine, no need to touch it."

^^Shops don't do inspections in Delaware. The DMV handles all state inspections. Oh, and they are free and you can buy two-year tags.

Middletown is in New Castle County, so you'll have to take the car to either the DMV in Delaware City or the DMV off of Rt 13. Both are new facilities, with the Delaware City one being the newest. The inspection process is a drive-thru process that is fairly easy to pass. The visual inspections really depend on which retard you get for the inspection. For instance, a few months ago, my GTO passed with flying colors except they decided to hold up the process because my tires didn't have street legal tread. Mind you, these non-street legal tires are Nitto NT05s. It took three "tire specialists" to determine that my DOT-approved tires were street legal.

However, despite that bullshit, the process can be relatively painless so long as you avoid Wednesday like the plague and take a day off during the week to get things done first thing in the morning. Unlike shops in PA that handle inspections, the DMV has no incentive to fail you for something because they don't have the ability to write up an estimate and try to entice you to get it repaired right then and there.

DEFIN avoid Wednesdays. It's brutal. Not sure if it's that way everywhere but it's a terrible experience here.

I finally got it done this morning, in Dover. They just plugged into the OBD2 port, they did not even look to see if I had Cats. I have bullet cats, but they didnt even check it.

I just went through the Middletown one to re-title my car in DE. They only hooked the sensor under the dash. No visual inspection was done.

I wish that was all we had down south. I know I'm going to fail the sniffer with my cam.
