Some good friends and a LSx junkyard build!
What started out as a conversation actually turned into a reality today. A good friend of mine was tired of having a boring daily driver, (his for fun car a nice clean tastefully modded super low milage Jeep SRT8 see picture below) So he decided he wanted something he could beat on thatll take abuse unlike the jeep, also be reliable and haul some bigger things. He started looking into leasing few different cars but realized he really needed a truck. Realizing that new trucks are 50k plus and also figuring he cant leave anything stock, we discussed about getting a silverado roller or a good runner and building a junkyard 5.3 or 6.0 doing basically everything the way he wanted and take it from there.
THE PLAN:
we decided to use a junkyard 5.3 tear it down and rebuild it with new performance parts. As of today 8/20/2015 the plan is as follows:
Stock 5.3 Block with stock rotating assembly
Custom Grind Rick Crawford Racing Cam (spec TBD)
Ported 243/799 heads (port amount TBD)
all new gaskets
new oil pump (type TBD)
Timing chain (brand TBD)
ETC ETC pretty much a basic heads/cam build
Drivetrain:
refreshed 4L60E possibly stalled
retain 4WD
Today we picked up the motor from Bibs Auto Parts in Kearny NJ. About a 35 minute ride from us in Staten Island. $450 bucks with a core of $30 (smh) for a L59 out of a 2005 suburban with 156K on it. The motor came with the VIN of the truck it came out, so I had another friend run a carfax and found out the truck really had 210K already on way home there was nothing we could do. sorry for huge pictures lol
We unloaded it at home loaded it up on the stand and went to work.
Complementary junkyard lifting device known to us as a seat belt
manifold off
heads off
Valley off
Oil pan off
all cleaned up waiting for its new parts
Jeep picture as promised:
Next step is to get a home for this motor to live in! Stay tuned!
