Pulled over in Virginia
Pulled over in Virginia So i was driving from PA-NC in my 2001 Camaro and got pulled over in "farmville" VA on RT 13 doing 95 in a 55 
officer takes my info comes back hands me the Court Summons and says this is a jail able offense
Called a lawyer and he said take a drivers safety class, get a copy of my driving record, its clean except for a following too closely in 2007, and get my speedometer calibrated
I fix on cars for a living and have never heard of this. Called some GM dealers none offer it. I googled it and the only state that dose this is VA
Anyone else have something similar happen to them and how did you get out of jail time??

here in Maine 80mph or 30 mph over is considered criminal speeding ( ask me how I know lol)and can result in arrest. Good luck but if your going the speedo recalibrate route I would suggest the tallest tires you can fit so it shows that indicated speed would be way lower than actual , maybe help get it reduced to a non criminal speeding

I've been pulled over in VA for 78 in a 55. I was totally cool with the Officer and simply had to meet my court date which sucked as I live in MD. OP, all that I can tell you is this: save your money, pay your fine, and be courteous the entire time that you interact with LEO and the Judicial System. Your offense is more serious than mine and even if your speedo was reading 20 MPH low by showing 70 MPH you were still knowingly going 20 MPH over the speed limit so I doubt there's much of a case there.
This happened to a friend of mine, I believe his was 90 in a 55 driving from Pa-Sc. He ended up having to pay something like a $1000 fine and do 50 hours of community service. He had already done 25 hours of community service prior to going to court along with the safe driving class. The judge actually tacked on another 25 hours! He had 60 days after his court appearance to get it done. They take this stuff serious down there!

One reason we no longer go through or vacation in Va is because of the cops. Years ago every time we went down or through Va with one of our TA's or Camaro's we were hassled by them actually following us for miles for no reason. We weren't speeding etc. Screw VA and their crazy bs against performance cars.

But yeah I do know Virginia has some pretty awful speeding laws. No radar detectors allowed either.

That no radar detector this is BS because I have driven thru that state about 100 times going from CT to florida and back and I have even had a cop right next to me looking in the car with one on the dash. If you have the right one they can not pick up that it's there.

Wife and I went to SC in the summer, doing 80-85 on I95 in VA the whole time. No problems at all. Not the first time I drove through VA and have even done so in my TA.
My guess is sticking to 95 where the limit is 70 keeps you safer.
95 in a 55 is a hell of a ticket. I would layer up for sure and do as he/she says.

the judge in this county tends to give jail time for over 90.

Not a good state. Get a lawyer, pay the money. Friend went to jail for a week on a charge like that. You might end up with community service or jail. I will be quicker to go jail. Like has been said 50 to 100 hours community service vs a few days in jail. GET the LAWYER to handle the case.

if i do have jail time at least there's hardly any people in the county, it has about 62 people for every square mile. the jail is probably filled with drunks, wife beaters & speeders lol
also, i just got some carbon copy letter that said my court date got pushed back a month.
I was doing 14 over in va on my way up to jersey from fl I paid a lawyer and he got it down to a tail light fix it ticket I paid out my *** but it all worked out in the end ...

I got stopped as a teenager doing 98 in a 65 in NH and I had to appear for Driving to Endanger charges. A fricken felony. Luckily it ended up being reduced.

Any up date on this. It really is crazy how they can even justify jail time and criminal charges. I got bagged last year by aircraft in NH but luckily had to just pay a ticket because it was under a certain amount. Hope you made or make out ok
