Need Input...
I need a car to enjoy Watkins Glen, Limerock and the like in...and I aint getting no Miata or Boxter...Simply want the fair handeling f-body. Since this is not going to be a Anniversary edition, a firehawk or anything special, Im trying to decide on eithr a 98 black vert TA or an 01 black T-Top TA.
The vert has 100k miles and will need paint and a motor freshining...a hood with heat extractors and a fiberglass tannau cover with a roll/light bar..
The T-Top would get the same hood, but has 15k miles and is otherwise mint...has a bunch aftermarket parts for performance (Seats, gauges, lowered suspension LCA's 12 bolt etc). But comes with no motor..I have one I can rebuild and toss in there with head/cam upgrade.
Both cost the same.

What would you do?
Both are M6's. The vert needs complete paint and refresh and is a '98
The t-top is beautiful but needs a motor but is an 01.

Help! BTW, I am keeping my 30th w/ twins of course.

The T roof car gets my vote.... Less work to turn it into a racecar. Best wishes. WJ

T-top without a doubt. I'd even look for a sexy red hardtop M6 1999 SS. Wait a minute, I've got one for sale!

The convertable is too heavy. Good brakes and a light car are key. The other thing is you will most likely have to run with the top down. Thats probably going to get annoying after a while.

I did Lime Rock in November. With stock brakes, I had to start slowing down before the start/finish line at only 115 mph. Now the rotors are shot.

I'm going to have to get some larger discs, or its not going to be even worth it.

And the Glen has longer straights. You'll be coming down from an even higher speed.

The T-Top car due to a few reasons.
1. It already has a 12 Bolt in it.
2. It's lighter than the Vert thus should corner better with equivelant suspension mods.
3. You have another engine to swap in there.

That would be reason enough for me to choose the T-Top car..-Fred

Hey Jammer I know Im a little late, I vote for the T-top car. The convertable would need an offical Legal rollcage to run OT days. Beside needing some weight reduction. I also was at Lime Rock in Nov. Was hitting just about 130, but was not happy with my pad selection(Breaking to early).. Lime Rock once you pick the pace up different rear gears are needed. My 3.42 had me in 3rd through the first 4 coners, then 4th for the rest. My car didnt have enough power to accerlate like I want it too.. Finally Lime Rock is only about 1.5hrs away. Nice and Close!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you needed any OT track setup advise let me know. John

John , I'll be in touch at some point. The T-Top seller flaked out on me after a few great conversations...still wonder if he dies or something. Now it looks like Im gonna be doing it in a 300xz Twin Turbo. Way less power, and not nearly as good looking...but hey, it has 4 wheel steering which should help through the turns compared to an f-body.

Jammer no big deal, whatever works. My first session ever at Lime Rock had me getting passed by a Late Model Altima. WTF! Was not happy with that. Second session picked the pace up and droped 7 seconds a Lap and then a couple of Vette's were fare game. Its nice drag racing them down the front stretch and the F-body coming out on top. Now I need to change to different race pads, Cam it and then be done with it for now. Good luck on the TT. John
