I pay $800 in the winter for a 94 f150 a 92 probe also with storage insurance on the TA. In the summer I pay $1200 with full coverage on the TA and other two. I was thinking that was high.

What sucks is The Insurance on the TA dosen't go back into effect until May11 I'll have to pay extra to get it out of storage earlier

Tires make a huge difference, but there is no way even with snow tires youd be able to drive an fbody near where I live, or get it up our 300 foot uphill doglegged driveway even after it is mostly cleared. We actually had to get snow tires for my wife's rav-4, it was getting stuck in the driveway. The year before she had a jetta, and that thing got stuck 8 or 9 times, and she had never had a problem driving in the winter before we moved to mountain top. Our area is extreme, but Id still be more than a little leary about trying to drive rwd with lots of torque in the winter.

But, having experience winter tires on a couple of cars now (I had some blizzaks on my ford contour svt also) I must say, give them a shot before you think you cant handle winter with your car!

You can get a winter beater and disable the insurance on it during the summer (out of use) -- that might be an option.

For the whole year last year my premium was $1400. 2001 TA and 93 cherokee. I only have basic coverage on the jeep (no collision). I'm a step, I think 12 or 13 now. I just turned 25 so it should be around 1300 if not a bit less.

I'm 23, my driving history is horrible but it's not on my record. I've gone down a point every year.

Slowhawk's insurance is a few hundred less than my SS Camaro and at the time he had a: Vette, Firehawk, Tarus, pickup truck, Chevy cav and a Buick GN. I'm off to Stoughton soon, my buddy moved to the next two over (Randolph) but said his insurance only went down 2xx.00, not even 300.00 so I'm not expecting that much of a drop.

I think that 2600 a year is a ton for insurance... and I don't have crap for tickets either. Hopefully with gettign married and all this september, and turning 28 this year.. it should take another decect drop.

Once the garage at the house is built... the car will go in ,and one of those agreed value policies will get done for the T/A. The mileage and use will be limited, but I'd rather have that and have it be insured for what it's really worth than have the thign get stolen or something and get 16K from the insurance, and be out the 20+K I have in the car. Should drop the total premiums for the year a bunch with that too.

I like in the middle of Manchester NH. I work in Nashua NH. I spend 99% of my time in the city or on the Highway between cities. Country conditions are irrelevant to me. If it were otherwise, I'd probably do otherwise.

As it is, I simply have no interest in a second commuter vehicle. I enjoy driving the TA too much. My first choice for a winter beater would just be another TA. I've no interest at all in driving anything less powerful, don't care what the weather is. In low-traction conditions it's simply a matter of proper throttle modulation. Some days I never get more than barely off-idle, but that's really no different than any other car in those same conditions (with perhaps the exception of awd vehicles).

I also pay $2200 a year for full coverage on the TA alone. 30 years old and single. NH doesn't have steps like MA, so I don't know how it correlates, but that 2200/year is with State Farms 10% good driver discount. It's as much location as anything else, living and working right in the city like I do. But oh well. I'm a city guy, always have been. I enjoy the country, just not enough to live there.
