Thumbs down GM recall on trucks!!!! DO IT!!!!

the tailgate strap recall, get it done!!!!!!!
we went to pick up Mikes brand new 4 wheeler, set up the ramps, he drives it up, sits up there nice, back tires hit the tailgate, and SNAP!! the straps break! inturn flipping the quad right backwards off the truck, falling ontop of mike, then flipping onto me! mike went right on his *** from about 3 feet up and had 400 pounds land on him. keep this inmind when that recall comes back up.
all i could think of is, if that was my Harley!!!! OMG, i would kill!!!!!

You are supposed to remove the tailgate whenever you use ramps!!!!!!!!!!!!! You rest the ramps on the bumper, not the tailgate!

i put them on the gate all the time. i never pull the gate off. ive done it for years, and my old man has been doing it with his harleys since his 72 ranchero. lol
my Harly doesnt even fit in my truck, my rear tire rests on the tailgate! she has a long front end.

Most tail gates are rated at 600 lbs. 400+ pound 4 wheeler, 200+ pound driver, ramps and whatever you weigh depending on where you was standing
Take the tail gate off next time..

Haha yerah falling off the back of the truck really sucked. Still a little soar from that one. In the field was nothing i pretty much just stepped right off of it. I was only doin about 2mph in the donut. lol Being narrower its a little more tippy but i wanna know what it could do id rather find out in a grass field with 6" of snow than a dirt trail with rocks. On the trails im taking it easy like you said i dont need to get hurt. When i went off with louie i just folowed him and navigated the trail at my own pace till we got stuck in the snow then i just turned around and went back. We'll see how sunday goes. My goal is to just ride the trails. I'll worry about keeping up later.

you get a recall thats says DO NOT put any weight on the gate till you get the straps replaced
brad we do 10-20 trucks a day here at the dealer takes 10 mins tops.
did you screw up the gate?

I thought they were rated closer to 1,000lbs for some reason...

I've been neglecting getting the cables done. I like going to the dealer as much as I like going to a doctor.

I've been wheeling all kinds of toys in and out of my trucks for years with the tailgate on. I think the heaviest thing I've had back there was a sled -- and I rode it up.

What kind of bikes do you guys got? (quads or whatever). Where were you riding?

I've got a 250R I built a few years ago. It's been hibernating for the last two. I'm looking to resurrect it and sell it this spring.

Do you mind if I ask what dealer you work at?

I've had a few poor experiences in the past - I'm looking for a place that'll get me in and out nice and quick.

see, the tailgate is rated at?? but i have always loaded up with the gate on and never had an issue. and the 4 wheeler is 370 and driver was 180 ramps are next to nothing, so it wasnt at the limmit yet. lol
i never had an issue tho, and ive been loading stuff ect for years. also, i have tried 3 times to get mine fixed, but everytime i get "oh sorry, we're out of the straps right now"
ive been waiting 2 months to get my other recal fixed as well.
either way, it still sucks, and also says to me, that i need to suport the gate with somthing next time. lol

That's where I got my truck. I work up in Hopkinton. I had you guys do an alignment and fix my leaking front diff a while back. That went just fine.

It's the place out in Spencer that rubbed me the wrong way, way back when. I used to go to them because they're closer (from home) than Milford.

Wow... I've honestly never heard of having to remove the tailgate to load anything.

That would make loading up a full sized motorcycle in a 6' bed a huge PITA.

even if i took it off, when my harley is on the truck, the rear tire sits on the gate, so how would i put it in without the gate? and when we have 2 quads on the truck, the rear tires on one are all the way to the back of the gate.
after seeing this, im still loading the same way, but im going to get the recall done, and figure out a way to help suport the gate a little.
