Default welded axel tubes to the center section.

What a dumb ***!

so this guy I was talking to tells me "oh yea just mig up the center section to the tubs it's stronger."

so I'm like "isn't the center section cast iron?"

he's like "no gm changed that out back in the early 90's.. no prob"

so I put a nice bead on this weekend

so monday I read a post, some guy's what's to know who to weld the tubes up to the center setion. I read on and everyone is talking about cast. I did a spark test on the center section myself this morning and it's cast iron.

So i don't know what the outcome is going to be: will it crack, will it split, will it be ok? Should I race it or baby it untill my SIRUS stock picks up and get's me my 12 bolt.

I don't see how putting the extra weld on will hurt it any. as long as you didn't grind down the tubes and center it will be fine. not that it matters as your posi is gonna take a dump before that happens.

Lightbulb

I was considering that as well in an attempt to possibly reduce some flex and maybe lengthen the 10 bolt's life a tiny bit...bad idea huh?

it's new too I got it on ebay it's an Auburn a little stronger than the torsion plus I had to replace it cuz it was all pitted and worn like every thing else in there. cost me 800 bucks for every thing to do it.

I didn't work with much cast and when I was a welder It was either Al., Steel or SS. Never welded cast Iron and don't know if it makes it too brittle.

well I was going to braze it but I was told to mig it. I bought rods and everything.

you can braze it just fine not as strong as mig but for what it was going to do it would have been fine IMO.

for me it's too late I would have to grind all that **** out and still I don't know what the moleculure structure of the stee is like now is it fucked or what.

10 bolt's can last 100runs or 100'.I wouldn't waste a penny on one.ACE could get a long life out of it or break it his first track outing.(I doubt the long life though)

me too the way I drive it..

Maybe UsAir is going to pan out before Sirus

When I do get a 12 bolt I remember... eaton Ta cover And I think there was something else? I think it was 36 splines.
I know this when I do get one I'm not doing.. it's too heavy for me.

I bought like 2 300 bucks worth of stuff at a time for the 10 bolt so it wasn't bad just as long as it don't blow up on me right away.
