Angry soooo close to 12s yet sooo far

i was supposed to go to a track rental at NED today with another member and friends and last night the weather looked bad, real bad. well wake up this morning and it was only a 30 percent chance of rain showers instead of 100 percent rain. so after a little talking it was on. drove the 2 hrs up there and find out they canceled the rental but were planning street night at 5ish. look at my watch and its 2 pm humm... got me thinking. well after furher discussion myself, my buddy (navigator) and father and sister (in a seperate vehicle) decide to go to LVD for test and tune. my buddy called his father at work who said there was a 50 percent chance of rain showers. spoke to my father said, "hell i dont care about the drive, i came here to race" the other member friend opted not to go, no big deal, so off we were. 3 and a half hours late (come on had to stop to eat) we arrive at LVD. clear skies, humid and not too bad. get teched in and make my first run at around 8 pm. not too many people there so i got in 7 runs by the end of the night. first run was a 13.1 at 105 with a 1.99 60'. didnt get the tires hot enough (nittos). was a was ecstatic (spelling). followed the up with consistant 13.1s at 105, with a worst of 13.3, damn people dragging water to the line. 5th run was as follows...
r/t .506
60' 1.835
330 5.346
1/8 8.287 @ 83.28
1000 10.843
1/4 13.013 @103.85

followed that up with a 13.1 and a 13.2
the last run the moron with the water sprayed it all over the track
my best run was driving around the waterbox and just heating the tires up without water. ohhh so close yet sooo far.... i dont know it was a long day and only my 2nd time at the track, so i guess i should be happy only things done to the car are a LM catback, lid, k&n filter, tune, and a 3400 stall. i want to thank eastside for getting me in at the last minute to do the tune, means a lot to me. i guess i shouldnt bitch, dropped almost a half second off of my time 13.5 to a 13.01. all in all a good day. feel free to comment guys.

Thumbs up

Ugh! 13.DOH! Keep plugging at it, 12s are like right there.
Then come fall/early winter you will be busting out high 12s like nothing with no other changes.

Damn close Erik, it's there, just have to get there on a better day. I know about the water getting dragged to the line.. I have a video of my 12.39 pass.. car was all over the place for all of first and part of 2nd gear... and the 1.85 short showed it. I'll show ya that sometime... believe me, when you see how sideways it was in first, you'll wonder how it even ran what it did. I told ya the car was capable of it, felt strong this past monday.

I do have a thought... I have the 3.42 gears that were in my stock axle.. if you want them.. I'm sure that you could probably talk me into seling ya the whole axle REAL cheap.. might be enough to get ya there.

Did you remove your spare tire and jack? Did you remove your front sway bar? If not.. there's your 12 second pass too.

Next time you are gonna go, lemme know! I'll have to swing by your house or you can swing by my parents again and we'll prep the car... bunch of little things that I learned that will probably get you there, and noone will ever see it

Congrats though... still damn good times for what you have done to the car. Knew I should have got an auto car.. I wouldn't be close to 11's.. I'd be getting close to 10's by now

Sooooo Close! I'm sure you'll get your 12 second slip this summer, maybe a day with a little better weather. I wanted to go to LVD with you, but I was afraid we'd drive 4 hours to get rained out out there too. We ended up getting a couple rooms on Hampton beach and all night long. Jay got arrested for open container in public..... and he's only 20. He had a beer in a keg cup and we were walking down the board walk. A cop was stopping traffic at a crosswalk and jay walked right into him. We kept walking.... turned around and he was being handcuffed. It was alot of fun, but the track would have been better. But like you said we still have all summer so we'll get together again at some point this summer/fall and get some runs in. Maybe jay will have the RSX ready by then, but I doubt it.

You would have hit 12's at NED. It is a faster track.

i wish i could go the 16th, believe me. but i dont think the army will like it no i didnt really track prep the car. only swapped on the toyos for the nittos. i was sooo close to taking out the spare and jack but i thought i wouldnt have too. and no i didnt disconnect the front sway bar. hummm 3.42s i might be interested in them, depends on how much it would be to get them installed. haha jay got arrested, im sorry but that is too funny definitly need to get together at the track by the end of the summer. i was watching the video's of my runs, and i definitly didnt heat the tires up enough my own stupid fault.

Next time you are gonna go.. lemme know, I'll give ya a ahnd track prepping the car... probably knock a good .2 off I'll bet.. I can think of a ton of stuff that you could pull off.. esp on the lift at your work. Every heat shield that you see... remove. Remove rear panhard bar support... you're not road racing the car, that does nothing. Remove front sway bar.. don't worry about breaking one of those link bolts either.. autozone has the poly end links from energy when you wanan put it back on for about 10 bucks. Spare, jack, gonzo. Air filter.... remove FOR TRACK PASSES ONLY. Probably get .1 from that. Dont' know how much gas was in the tank, but if it was over 1/4... WAY too much. Floormats, t top shades, cd's, glove box stuff, all outta there. Ther's your 12.7 pass right there.

And dont' stop spinning those nitto's until 1/2 the car is hidden in the cloud.. so they hook up.

I'll bet the 3.42's would probably knock another .2 off as well.

I'm not 100% if the gears would fit in your axle, different carriers I think, hence why you might want the whole thing. Just have to pull the abs rings off yours and press them on mine, and I think cut the ebrake mount off yours and weld it on mine, as 12 bolts dont' come with them. Think about it... it's a little work, but might be worth it.

Or just get a set of 3.73 gears for your rear, you got an auto car, the 10 bolt will last a hell of alot longer then it will with a stick car. The 3.73's are gonna make a good diffference, but will hurt you on te highway, probably add 800 rpm's to the highway rpm, maybe more, not sure. But, as long as you keep it under 75, it should still be fine I'd think.

ya i think the 3.73's are a little steep for me. i like crusing around at 70 at 2 grand. which is why i was thinking 3.42. u forget i get the shop discount on auto parts and ive done a few sway bar end links in my time there. humm if the gears would work let me know. but i think i might pick up some 3.42s if they dont, depending on installation cost. it was great the kid who was directing us into the burnout box was getting pissed because i would drive around and back in. then the little bastard sprayed water all over the track on my last run.

Sorry to hear this Erik, SOOoooooooo close!!!

Changing to the 3.42's is a great idea, certainly enough to get you into the 12's.

that and a little bit of weight reduction. but my downfall was not heating up the tires enough. the one time i did heat 'em up for about 6 seconds was the one i clipped a 1.8. can definately get the 1.7 with more. use the water guy it is your friend.... got a few more bolt-on's planned and a few emmisions systems to eliminate... than maybe some gears to cut another .1 or .2 and call it a season.

The ET is pretty good. The mph is where I'd start concentrating. 1.8 60' on a 3.23 geared stock torque converter car is about all your gonna get. I haven't seen a stock A4 go 1.7's with stock power setup. Have you considered a cutout yet? That would bump your mph by 2 or so. I bet with a cutout you will go 12.8 next time you go to the track.

Where are you stationed?-Fred

its not a stock converter, its a 3400 stall. i noticed the first time i had it at the strip that the best i was cutting was a 2.00 flat. and its got a LM so that is close enough to a cutout. my unit is in Branford, CT. National Guard armory. on our last deployment we were doing base security oppourations at Ft. Drum and than Ft. Hamilton. just going to Dix for our 2 week AT.
