Default anyone with 3rd gen knowledge/experience?

my POS 91 rs camaro (v6) has been running hot, around 250 on just a short drive. it hasnt been that hot, and at night when its cool it is still running a lot hotter than usual. I checked all the fluids, filled the coolant up more and replaced the t-stat which seemed to be shot but it hasn't helped. Is there something else common that goes on these cars (like the heater core)??
thanks in advance

My electric fans where screwed up on my '85 and it was doing the same thing. It's a V6?? Just drive it into a guard rail and take the insurance check, or you can park it in my dad's field next to my '85.

could also be the radiator is clogged up, or water pump fins are shot and not pushing coolant. when its running hot like GM muscle are the cooling fans on? could be a bunch of different things... im not sure if there are any good garages around u, but when u go back to school id say bring it to the shop i work at. real honest to goodness garage and we take care of our customers. also have 2 awesome technicians, one has over 20 years of experience on GM vehicles. its in vernon so its nowhere near waterbury, but is only 15 minutes from storrs

Make sure the air dam/deflector is still there. If its gone or broken, no air gets into the radiator.

i have really thought about driving into something, but i've had too many accidents... and driving it into a concrete wall wasnt enough . i have wanted to sell this POS for such a long time but i am trying to wait until the new camaro comes out, then i could just trade the junk in. I was thinking the fans, i will check that out tomorrow...

erik, i actually just moved up to school today. I will try to fix it with my dad first if all else fails i probably wont be desparate enough to spend the $$ for someone else to fix it,

my dad gets so mad at me for spending all my $$ on the WS6. I just bought an electric water pump for it, while i wont spend the $$ to fix the exaust on my camaro thats been shot for about 1.5 mos now..

but thanks for the replys ill check all this stuff

My '89 V6 Firebird would get over the 220 mark, around 230 sitting in traffic with the fans going. I drained the radiator and was suprised how much sand and gunk came out with the old coolant. I put a hose in the top and just sprayed some water through to flush it a bit, and that seemed to help cool it by 10 degrees or so. But if I was on the highway it usually didn't run too hot, right around 190-200. If your car is running hot on the highway make sure the airdam is functional and you didnt' suck up a plastic bag or something to block flow to the radiator. Another cheap thing to try would be a new radiator cap, if the spring is bad it won't keep the system under pressure and cause it to boil at too low of a temperature.

If its the heater core you'll find dripping around the lower part of the passenger dash near the center console. Mine developed a leak and I had to replace it once.

most likley if you have a heat problem at cruise in a thirdgen the chin spoiler is missing, broken, or weak and bending back at speed.
the grill space on a 3rd gen is very poorly used, mainly only there to hold up the optional fog lights. then they went and put a band aid on teh problem with a chin spoiler that in stock form is much to tall to live long.
when that breaks the only air teh rad will see move through it is whatever the poorly hung factory fan can pull.

later

My 91 RS was doing the same thing awhile back and it turned out to be a small crack in the plastic on the radiator tank. The fluid would leak out when the car was running and cause it to overheat. The fan motor and the air dam also made my car overheat in the past. It's kinda sad, before I had my 4th gen my 3rd gen was in perfect shape, but now I've been neglecting it for the past 3 years and it's starting to show.

If it is an 85 it should have a clutch fan ( fan works off the belt) the clutch is probably gone so it isn't cooling like it should. Dunno where I got 85 from but anyways 91 should be electric check to make sure both fans are turning on.
