Default Quick tranny question......

Well my car grinds 5th and 6th gears when it's cold, usually only for about 5-6 miles and only when shifting quickly. Then it's fine. I am guessing the synchros may be a lil worn. Not much of a tranny guy but should I get this tranny freshened up or just leave it be and when it goes, it goes. Any idea what I would be looking at if I do decide to just freshen it up or is that just not even worth the time? I am looking to buy a beater so the camaro will be off the road for the winter anyway, so I figured I may get a few things done while she's hibernating. Thanks for any info you guys may have.

id wait till next season. My car is the same way with 3rd and especially 5th (its been like since i bought it, but its gotten worse). I am waiting till winter.

That's what I was thinking....luckily it's just 5th mainly so it's not like I am too worried about it. Do you mind if I ask how many miles on your T/A Steph?

I believe 5th and 6th are in the back of the tranny so that is a plus. Call ddperformance.com see what they want for the synchro's. I don't want someone mad at me but Slowhawk did my 3rd gear and shift fork.

i still have my rebuild kit that i never used..I paid like 250 for it, don still has it so let me know. Its all new stuff from d&d

Hmmmm maybe I should check with Don and see what he'd get to do that if I do decide to do it. So far it's just more of an annoyance than anything else, but depending on price it may be good to do just as a precautionary measure.

Well synchro's start to go then the blocking ring then the whole gear I dunno how I know that lol And when the blocking ring and gears go then pieces get into everything else. Then you need to canabalize a t/a lol

25K..
When i bought the car, it would grind 5th everyone once in a while. Now whenever i drive the car it grinds 3rd and 5th about twice each until it stops. It probably didnt help that i learned stick on my car either. I plan to just let don rebuild the tranny this winter. I think he plans to just do the tranny and put in a new clutch in at the same time..idk we'll see

Sounds like this is a common problem on these trannys then.....especially considering the low mileage of your car.....then again I have torn through a few Tremecs and those are pretty damn tough to break!

I blew 5th gear in my 98 with 1000 miles, would not go into 5th
