Default Rare?

my uncle just purchased a 2000 Camaro SS. Ls1, auto, Monsoon sound system, A/C, hardtop. The weird part about it is that it has no power windows, mirrors, locks, or seats. I've never seen a newer gen. camaro SS with no power, well no power anything. Is this a rare combo. ?

Have your Dad run the vin. # Make sure it's not a home-made SS. There are a number of them out there...Also, any SLP extra options on the car? If so, that SLP sticker should be on the door. Those options you said that the car does not have came in a "preferred equipment group" for the year 2000 on the Z-28, so someone COULD have ordered the car that way, either by mistake, or if it was going to be raced, for weight savings. Any signs that it's a ex-racecar? WJ BTW Jordan, that group of options was STANDARD for the yr. 2000 on both all Z-28 and SS convertibles only. I have the option books in my files from '98-'02...

well it has a camaro SS emblem on the dash (by the radio) and it has the Camaro SS sticker in the engine dep. declaring what type of motor oil came with the car from the factory. It has the SS wing, hood, emblems, wheels. I'd imagine someone would have to go through alot of work to make an SS "clone", but you never know it is a weird option package. I will check the vin at work on monday. in the meantime can someone help me with my image problem?

Like I said, there are 4th gen. SS "clones", or "pretenders" all over the place. The true SS car will have WU8 among it's option list when he runs the vin. WJ

Like WJ said, It could be a stripper Z made into an SS clone. Check the driver side dore for the WU8 code and the Passenger door for the SLP sticker. It may not have the SLP sticker, Not all SS's have it. Only the ones with SLP added options. It would be strange to have a no option "striper SS".

There are a few out there, Dave....Just like there are some cloth interior SS cars. Notice his car is also a hardtop? Less than 5% of all SS cars were solid roof cars. Preferred equipment group (power windows, door locks, and remote entry) could have been not checked off when the car was ordered, either by mistake, or by choice to make a "rare" SS... Also, there are many SS cars out there that have been in accidents, w/replaced doors, that will not even have a option sticker on the door any longer. The only sure way to identify is to have a dealer parts dept. run the vin. and print out a complete options list for you. WJ

DIESO's old SS was a hardtop cloth interior, but still had power windows & doorlocks. If it is real, it's prety rare.

same with my old SS it was a hardtop with cloth interior and no SLP options at all but it was still nonetheless a "real" SS.

I don't think it can be a 1LE car, ironically enough in 2000 (and later) you could not get the 1LE package in a stripper car, they made you take at least the base option package (1SB?) in order to get it unlike in the earlier 1LEs, at least that's how I read it.
And yes there is such a thing as a stripper SS (as well as a stripper Z28), my brother's car and mine are both strippers. A stripper SS is more rare though.
