Unhappy The fuel sucks

This new mix fuel sucks and I see it on cars running on the dyno.Alot of cars are down HP and we have to bring the timing down. Had a 04 Vette today that would only take 20degree's of timing compared to the 25-26 we ussually run. I personally filled the car up beforehand.
The government sucks for this fuel change. Bye Bye high hp cars

Due to the change in fuel. Do we stand to gain anything to have your car retune to work with this fuel?

I could have sworn that ethanol actualy raised the octane, I read somewhere that E85 is like 105-110 octane.

I thought ethanol was used in higher horsepower applications.

Well, think about this guys, emission control. Back, way back, before I was born emission control standards were put into place to help protect the enviroment. The standards sapped plenty of power from engines, but they seemed to have gotten through it with modifications in engine design and parts.

So don't fret, eventually you will all be using electric vehicles.

funny you said that don. ethanol was supposed to drop the price for gas because we wouldnt need as much but the prices are still climbing, so much for that. we just gave the oil tycoons another reason to keep their prices where they are. we just let them do whatever they want and try to fix the problem ourselves. i wouldnt be surprised if the people selling gas took offense to this and tried to weasel in a 10% gas price hike.

don, you said the performance has gone down right? think of it, ethanol bumps up the octance rating a tiny bit but it's not as consistent and reliable as plain out higher octane gas. gas stations are KNOWN to take regular grade gas, dump it into the premium tanks, dump ethanol in it and sell it as premium grade. their reasoning is the octane is bumped up to a premium level but as you and others notice it's not.

now if we were running pure alcohol that would be worth the conversion!

Methenol is a better fuel BUT it needs to be run at 9-1 A/F. So,it is bad for the cars now. It is going to be a motor replacement season this year 98 Mass, your all set since we were already running it during the tune.

i think the pure ethanol has an octane rating at something like 121. cool stuff is we use it the proper way.

look at brazil, they have a bunch of oil and use ethanol in everything and they are one of the very few countries who are self sufficent from within their country when it comes to fuel. all they do is sell their oil to other countries and keep their farmers wealthy. they make it from sugarcane.

our farmers want to make more money, they say they are losing more each year. why not cut our thirst of oil from the middle east, keep the money within the united states and boost the economy. we are always going to need more fuel and it's not like we dont have the land to grow more than enough corn.

Very true. But one small problem..... The US government would never let that happen. Way to many of the politicans have their hands in oil to let us farmers mess it up for them.

I haven't looked into this for a while.. but I think.... the ethanol basically adds oxygen to the fuel like said, but because of this it displaces the combustability of the "gasoline" itself.. meaning its like having a FI motor and taking away say 2psi... and no way to really get it back... so the only way to get back the HP is to actually build the motor even more.. LOL... only good thing is we are all on the same level.... hahahaaa
