Drag Strip in Philly.
I'm think that it'll have to be at around a 5mile square place. (with a length of 5 miles and a width of 5 miles.)
Enough to hold a mile-long track and spectators/competitors.
The reasoning why I'd like to build one on the outskirts of Philly-
So I don't have to bum a ride to Atco. Most people who go there with daily drivers are probably from Philadelphia. And having the strip right here would be alot easier to access than crossing a bridge(for philly folks) or like 4 buses/trains for those who can't get a ride. There is a lot of good that can be done with it to keep alot of the street racing off the street and on the strip.
Any comments, questions, informativities, derogatories, ideas, and such will be gladly accepted.
only issue would be dealing with the local noise and polution people. you know as well as i do how people act around here.anything that is louder than casual conversation or uses more gas than their lawn mower is worth complaining to the cops/local government about.
i bet one big selling point is how much it woudl cut down on street racing in the city. it is a known fact that the closer and better access to legal racing facilities is the lower the number of street racing related incidents.
But the fact is, the land is prime real estate, and to put in a drag strip would be quite expensive. Oh well.

Truth is a track right in Philly could work wonders for what the locals/cops consider a real street racing problem....get the city involved, run some late night events and get that **** off the streets (though that's not likely, people will always still street race). If those who are complaining about the street races make no effort whatsoever to build a local track then they really can't expect too much sympathy/support from those that still race.

If peopel want cars to stop alot of street racing, then they should either A) let us build this track, B) shoot the dam bastards, or C) have the city put in a governator to limit the spped of the car to 50mph. Of course, all they will do is D), b!tch and complain about the $hit.

Now thats just stockers passing at 55 think about boom tubes burning out at 930pm.

D: Sums this up nicly doesn't it?
Street racers stay on the street anyway track racers make the hike to the track no matter.
I fully belive from what i've seen and people I know people will run on the street if they want or the track if they want, luckly here we have semi local tracks but even if one was closer by to me I wouldn't change my own habits of a friendly light to light and roll down my window ask him to meet me at atco.
the air force base would be awsome....there would be no need for lights or timing devices. we'd play it like the street...1 flagger...2 cars....1 finish line. have everyone sign a waiver in case anyone gets hurt. but since its government property, i dont think that'll ever happen.
you'll see a casino in philly way before a race track. but, if by some chance, a track does get build...i would volunteer my services and work there for free!
They are actually pretty close to building a nascar track in AC area or way northern /Pa Nj for the NY city area track.
Wait, aren't they going to close that Air Force Base? Or, if they did already, hows about LS1Tech buy it? (or whoever owns LS1Tech, or anyone who could) Then it would be ours as in the racer's track.

NAS Willow Grove is not closed and was only put on the BRAC (Base Realignment And Consolidation, I believe is what BRAC means) list a couple of years ago. To give you an example the ASO compound in NE Philly was put on that list back in 1998 and it's still there. It will take 10 years before the Navy moves out and that's if everything goes the Navy's way. Even once the Navy does leave that land is worth millions to developers and while a track would be cool I just don't see that happening when they could build 100+ homes at 500k a piece on that land.
I think we should feel lucky that we have 3 decent tracks within 60 miles of Philadelphia as some areas do not have a track within 200 miles. I'd love to see a track but IMHO it will never happen. We'll be lucky if we don't lose one of the 3 we have now over the next few years. Just my 2 cents.
