Default im begining to hate cars

well i have a customer at my shop that has a 99 ta.he got a turbo kit online, its an older tti kit i think, he had it on for like two weeks and blew the motor playing with the boost.

i just got a new stock gm crate motor for it,cause it was cheap and thats what he wanted(dont know why i tried to talk him into forged).

put it all back together and he has put 200 miles on it,now he has a decent cam in it and as most ls1s are the valvetrain is a lil noisy.

well he brings it to me today and says he has a clunking noise,i listen to it and at first it just sounds like the noisy lifters, but the more i listen it sounds like its lower(louder under the car). i take it out for a ride and its almost gone while your on the gas just cruising, but when you let off its very noticable.

it has good oil pressure, and it sounds like a noisy lifter, just down lower in the engine,i left it running trying to listen to it and now it seems like its gone away.......im stumped what the hell do you guys think it could be

Something like that happened to my TA, The lifter tray was bad and the lifter was spinning around in the tray so the noise would come and go... Just an Idea

Yeah the Head has to come off for that unfortunaly... Its a long job, but worth it because you if the lifter breaks it can score the cam and mess that up as well, I only know from experience...lol..
