Default engine cleaning

I'm looking into entering my first car show. I have not cleaned the engine compartment since I bought the car 5 years ago. It needs a good steam cleaning. Any recommendations in the CT area?

Thanks, Jim

I'd start with a compressor.. the air will blow alot of the heavy crap out and you can get to alot of the small nooks in the compartment. I'd start with that.

As for a steam cleaner, I know people that have done that, but I wouldn't do it on a hot motor, and try not t aim for electrical connections, the water will raise hell if you've got any bad seals on the connectors, and you might, you just don't know it yet.

Other then that, detailer spray on a rag for painted surfaces, and some type of tire dressing on a rag on all the black plastic usually works pretty good.

Me too, spray it with the hose.

I douse it with simple green 1st and let it sit for a minute, then hose it off gently.

just use engine brite or simple green..let it soak for a few minutes then hose it off. It'll leave everything nice and clean. Then dress the plastics/rubber and you're done.

yup use simple green automotive cleaner, dilute it a bit, and spray it all over the engine bay. Let it sit for a few mins then hose it off. Then I usually will take a soapy sponge and wipe down everything again and hose it off again. Then take a leaf blower and dry it with that then take some tire shine and wipe down your platic pieces with it. I did that and my engine bay looked amazing.

I like the purple stuff from wal-mart works good. Any kind of degreaser will work though. Just make sure if it gets on the paint, to rinse it immediatly. And dilute it just a bit.

Use Gunk Engine Cleaner at the quarter car wash.

Spray it down real good with the stuff.. let it sit for a bit, and then spray it off.

When I bought my car it was pretty clean under the hood. But what you couldnt see, you could feel with the fingers. Some gritty substance, prob. just road grime.

Nothing but a rag and simple green is what worked for me. Under the hood was a pita but it looks mint underneath too.

Now mind you the attached pic was before cleaning, you couldnt tell, just the feel.
