May be moving to Rhode Island
Does anyone have any recommendations for housing? Where to live?
Does RI have emissions testing? Is there anyway to get around it?
Any info would be appreciated.

It is expensive here in RI... especially the housing. I live on Acquidneck Island (Newport/Middletown) I can pretty much guarantee you will not find anything affordable to buy . I've been here for 6 years and no luck yet. You need to make in excess of 100 grand just to afford the chance to buy a house here... it sux. Stay in Houston!

CT is a horrible place to live, even if housing is less expensive

I live in warwick and work in newport. Rhode Island is a great place to live. After living in MA my whole life I bought a house here and I love it. And it's not expensive at all compared to anywhere else. As long as you can get over the shitty drivers.

I found a home in Coventry, RI for 184K. I think it will be doable with my new job. BTW, my intentions are to buy a house.

Good Luck with it ... Just avoid towns like Cranston and warren. One thing I have never gotten over is that even new houses here look "run down". A fair warning to note: Radon gas is very high here in the state so a basement Radon removal system is advised. In addition Beware of Flodding basement issues or Mold problems. These are the most comon ones ... also make sure the house doesn't have original 1920 or something wiring... some even were built with bare wiring.. they were modernized, but left the original wiring in use in the walls! so be very thoughrough

Coventry, RI is a nice area. Pretty much in the center so you can get anywhere else in the state pretty quick.
Isn't CT rated as being an expensive place to live?
What did you do wrong to have to leave TX?

I didn't do anything wrong to leave Texas. I would like to stay in Texas, but this is an opportunity I can't pass up. I possibly have a job with a company under DuPont. I will probably end up being transfered back to Texas within 3-4 years.
And the drivers in RI are HORRIBLE!!!
