1- Clean the Mass air meter.Take it apart and clean the metal element with Mass air cleaner or carefully with a towel(watch out for the resistors).
2- Air filters -if ussing a K+N put very little oil (or none).Too much will go onto the MA and cause the car to run lean at WOT.
3- Fuel filter -Replace it if it has over 25k on it or for a piece of mind.A clogged filter can cause fuel pressure to drop under load.
4- Clean grounds -This is becoming a very populer problem since the cars are getting old.The connections get weak and cause alot of problems. It is also the main reason if your 02's are lazy on switching. Take off the driver side and pass side, sand down the contact point and reinstall.

That should do it
i read the title to this thread don, and i was like "wtf is don talking about, who the sh*t maintains springs?"

haha

Otherwise....It's best if you can look at a graph plotting voltage vs time, but I can get a decent idea of how fast they are switching by watching on my hand-held scanner.
Not totally true, my car will throw o2 codes without the light coming on. I actually have to check it every couple weeks. With my car it's always about once a month sensor 1 bank 1. I'll check all my grounds 1st, I just put a new battery in and didn't even think to check while in there.

I have also hear that when it's real cold and the sensors don't get up to temp before closed loop you can have some issue with that. The other theory is that if you pry apart the little fins/holes on the o2 head it will allow it to heat up faster, some guys swear by it, but I dunno.

I might try replacing my extensions too, maybe it's just a bad one, that is if i don't get the vette o2 1st.

I'm having the same problem. If you get it figured out, please post up your results!

Maybe what you are seeing is a pending code. I'm pretty sure that the first time the error occurs it is just stored in the PCM, only after the error happens for a second time does the PCM set an SES light. Nevertheless, you are correct in that the error may have occurred once, but no SES light came on.

I learned a few things from speaking with a Bosch engineer. Firstly, it is an Internet myth that the Bosch rear sensors use a heater of higher wattage than the Bosch front sensor. There is a difference between Bosch front and Bosch rears, but it is not the heater.

According to the Bosch engineer the front and rear Bosch sensors do use different baffles. If we compare a Bosch front sensor to a Bosch rear sensor, we see that the baffles on the rear sensor are more closed than on the front sensor. It's designed that way so that it works better down stream in the exhaust where the gasses are not as hot.

The heat comes from within the sensor on heated sensors. In other words, the sensor, if working properly, should actually be hotter than the exhaust gasses. Opening the baffle more may or may not help, but intuitively it should be counter productive if we're assuming that lack of heat is the problem.

Opening the baffles will let more heat escape from within the sensor, it may also allow more exhaust gasses into the sensor.

Here's a link to a discussion from a few months back.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, Don. Maybe the o2 discussion can move to the the thread linked above.
