tuners/shops jersey
i am an old school carb guy, i can tune them in my sleep and i never had any interest in using EFI until HPT was explained to me. it took all of about 15 minutes to learn how to use it.
as long as you have some common sense about how fuel, air, and spark work you can do it. if you don't already have the basics, it is in the help files.
There are people who have the experience of many years and many cars on what works at the track and what does not. Simply buying HPTuners/EFILive/LS1Edit will not give you those years of experience and knowledge.
The top tuners will have that know how, the average guy with a laptop will not.

you can also ease the effort of having to figure it all out perfect from scratch by going on their site after you purchase the software and looking through the tune dump. the chances are very high that someone has tuned the same or a similar combo before.
engines are not some great mystery to be held in blind wonderment. they are still the same basic device that has been running cars for over 100 years and the same basics apply.
i don't know why you insist on making it sound like the mysteries of the universe have to be unlocked for anyone to get a good tune in their car, because that couldn't be further from the truth.
