MA emmisions: is this true?
MA emmisions: is this true? I keep hearing this rumor that mass is gonna drop all emmision testing for '95 and below, no more sniffer for all pre obdII cars. any truth to this? il be bumming cause il miss it by 1 year if its true..
That's gonna be the case with NY soon too. The old Dyno machines are not worth the hassle of maintaining and repairing for vehicles now 12+ years old (those machines break more often than 10-bolts 
) NYS is supposed to add a sniffer to the existing OBD2 machines to test for idle emissions output for '95 and older. Gonna make my life much easier with the Oldsmobile!

I wager, they will be monitoring DMV records and if the percentage goes down for each yr veh as they get older, then less of an impact they would have over all. I dont see it going away. I see it getting phased out like in CT, I think its 25 yrs
We had the guy who calibrates the dyno and the v mass in last week and he said it is true. After 08 he's gonna be out of a job! There getting rid of the dyno!! Thank god! I hate doing those stupid stickers!! My only question (which he wasnt 100% sure of) was what about the trucks, and vans that are over 8600 GVWR they require a dyno even there 96 or newer??
I've heard from three inspectors:
One said he hasn't heard anything of the sort
The other two said it's 100% true. I believe they also said Oct.2008
They all said that the state is not renewing it's contract with whatever company is affiliated with the dynos. I thought I heard it was all cars, not just pre-OBDII.

just anything that would require a dyno. I dont think it has to do with renewing a contract (although possible). I Know that every year since I started doing stickers there have been less, and less every year.
