Default Raced a LS2 GTO from a Roll

Nothing crazy but on the way home from the pike, i.e. on the freeway. I was just cruising, 60 mph with the t-tops off just chillin. All of a sudden to my left a Dark (prob Black) 05-06 GTO blares by me quickly but then kinda slows down. But not slow enough to indicate he wants to run. I saw some 6.0L badges.

I decided to say **** it and followed.

I got a flat, straight section, I pulled up slowly, in 4th gear at around 70 and I gave him the wave to go 1st. As soon as I heard it hit, I punched, I pulled a car then slowly pulled a another half. I could see his heads lights in my rear view mirrors.

The race went from about 4k rpms in 5th, revved to about 6k and a lil into 5th, then I let off. I gave him the thumbs up, he kinda just kept going. I wanted to see what he had done, he didnt want to stop. He had I think one passanger, windows rolled up and at least an exhaust. who knows what else.

Just kinda nice to get a kill here and there. My clutch definitly was a lil softer after but then firmed up on its own with in 30 seconds after the race. I am going now chill on doing these sort of races. Spec 3+ here I come.

There was an 05 gto at the track tonight with the 6.0L engine (LS2). He ran a 12.628 @ 108.49 with 1.833 60' and then he ran a 12.779 @ 107.04 with a 1.852 60'. Don't know if it was stock or not, but they are pretty fast. I would have has a better chance if I get a set of Mickey Thompson drag radials or et street.

It's your 3,600 lbs. versus his 4,000+ lbs with a passenger. And a goat with an LS2 is still underpowered. Maybe the girl on his passenger seat made him stupid enough to race you.

It almost definitely was not stock, a few bolts ons at least.

My car is 3800 with me in it and We have weighed my best bud's GTO and with 2 drivers its just around 4000, so there is too much varience in your guess. The weight is about a 200-250 diff. But I figure with T-tops down it wasnt helping me lol.

3800 seems a little high to me. I weighed my car at the weigh station near LVD and it was 3400 even, without me in the car.

I weighed my 6-speed manual GTO with the 18" rims when it was bone-stock on a truck scale. Curb weight (weight with a full tank of gas and without me and my accessories) was 3,781 lbs. Add my 150 lb weight and 30lbs of accessory weight and you would get 3,961 lbs. Add a 150 lb passenger and you would get 4,111 lbs.

I had no idea that a Trans Am could be so heavy since my no-options Z28 only weighed 3,395 lbs bone-stock with a quarter tank of fuel and without me and my accessories. Regardless of the weight difference between your Trans Am and the other GTO, I would have thought twice about racing any 4th gen LS1 f-body--especially if the GTO was basically stock.

As you no doubt proved, the opinions that people have about LS2 GTO performance are definitely overrated.

Damn Aaron, good kill. I am surprised you won to be honest, since you said you started in 4th gear at 70mph (3rd gear will run you up to ~100-105). I am guessing he was probably an auto GTO.

Yeah, you say you went from 4k in 5th that's a 100roll with 4.10s, that's must have been one heck of a race.
