i need an lt1 specialist
i have a 1996 trans am that has a lt1 from a 1995 camaro in it...i bought it off someone and they didnt have too much info to give me except that it was a rebuilt motor out of a 1995 camaro.
the problem: the car is throwing codes for the o2 sensors, crankshaft position sensors and the MIL not working. the car runs and drives so i know there isnt a problem with the crankshaft sensors. i belive its a problem with the computers in the car. i spoke to a couple of people and they told reflashing the computers will not fix these problems. would trading computers from a 95 camaro work? would they work in a 96 trans am?
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...thanks!
It doesnt matter as far as Camaros or T/A's
As for PCM's LT1's had 3 major Changes
1993- ODBI No MAF a "chipable" pcm
1994-1995 ODBI MAF Unvented Opti (94) Vented (95), Flashable PCM
1996-1997 ODB2 Vented opti and new pcm.
I dont have much exp with ODBII parameters but the harness for the PCM is going to be different and some of its not going to match up to the engine, thats prob why your having the issue. If the car isnt physically running bad, then dont worry. Or swap a 94/95 Harness in there, then it matches up to the motor.
Edit:
Good site to check out if you havent already

I'll see what I can dig up in the mean time.

PM Madwolf he is a big LT1 email tuner, he knows his ****. He would have better insight then me.
the problem is getting it to pass emissions...ill let you know
You should first try to find out if they swapped the engine harness with the engine swap, or if it was just a straight engine swap. Look for an extra connector around the front of the engine that isn't plugged into anything.
I suspect one of two possibilities,
1. They just swapped the engine, kept the OBDII harness/pcm, and without that newer cover/sensor, they had no place to plug it into.
2. They kept the original OBDI engine harness with the engine that went into your chassis, and just used the OBDII pcm. The pcm is still looking for that sensor but the OBDI harness has no provisions for it.
Either way, you can resolve your code problem by swapping in a 94-95 pcm (it's a straight plug/play affair).
I did an OBDI conversion on my 97' way back before LT1_Edit had OBDII capabilities. I think the knock sensor needs to match the year of the pcm if memory serves.
Good luck.
Mike
either way i am going to be looking for a pcm out of a 95 camaro/firebird or 94 but i dont think it would work...so if anybody knows of one please let me know. thanks so much!
