10000, that is about when they probably should be replaced and check the old ones to see where they are at to get a guage on how long they're good for.... ... but I'd think since you just recently had it retuned if they were getting weak it would have shown up then.

it sounds like a valve that went bad for some reason or another, if you weren't beating on it when it broke, or hadn't beat on it right before then I dunno... usually stuff like that happens when it's getting hammered on, or if you start it and drive it too quick, but it doesn't sound like either is the case here.

what brand valve were they? If you go with a l92 block just get the l92 heads also.

wasnt there a recall or a post from AFR about a bad set of valves or springs i dont remember but i know Tony Mamo posted something i would look into this if i were you....

My car is done. It might see a FAST 90/90 set up or electric water pump, but that's it. Need to save to rebuild the tranny.

yes there was and it was the rocker cupping the top of the valve stem due to them being to soft i believe

I remember hearing about the recall and it being somethign lke that also, the valve stem's weren't hardened correctly I think it was. That doesn't mean that this is or is not related to that same recall... too hard to tell really.

I think if it was too soft it would have bent where this one sheered off.

same thing just happend to a guy i know with 1000 miles on a new 408 l92 the valve head broke off clean and the piston put it through the valve hole could it be a bad batch of valves his were stock gm ones

That sucks man, what did TSP or AFR say? The head may be repairable but theres still a motor thats toast.
