That is not necessarily correct. Most of the bigger plasma's and lcd's have digital tuners built-in that the TV will receive and decode the signal but the signal will probably be limited with a built-in decoder.

Thanks for the info.

I looked at televisions at Best Buy yesterday. As you know, they have a million flat screens. I'd like to buy a really nice one, but I don't want to throw a ton of cash at one. Basically, I just want a decent Plasma or LCD 42" flat screen. Best Buy had some in the $900 - $1,500 range. That's probably what I'm looking to spend. They had Westinghouse, LG, Samsung, and a few others. Any recommendations? I don't need the latest and the greatest. Probably just hook up an old vcr and a dvd player. Standard cable for now, digital cable maybe in the future. Thanks!

that is not neccessarily right either, the built in tuners are high def but you have to have something sending highdef to it, like a high def antenna that you can get for like 20-70 dollars and depending on area can get anywhere up 10 high def channels. granted they will not look as good as high def that is using a hd box and component or hdmi connection.

What??? I had no idea. Congratulations. You sound very knowledgable. It's a good business to be in. When i pull the trigger I'm going with a 60-65 plasma 1080p when the price comes down in a couple years. But my Mits 55 CRT is s till running great asnd it's 6 years old. On the amp side Mcintosh and PSB golds

I am no expert so I am not going to disagree with your response but I was responding to a comment that stated you can't get a digital signal from a built-in tuner which is not true. I was not talking about high-def which is why I said the signal would be limited. I know a lot of the TV's now have a ATSC built-in tuners that will require an antenna to receive over the air HD.

The Westys are nice LCD's for the $$$
They are rated pretty good to boot, the TX line in 42in is a nice set...

Sure Fuji's are kings in Plasma but now we're talking bookoo $$$,The LG's I was NOT impressed with and the Pannys tend to be dark and dull in color....

The Sammy 5084 Plasma is a very nice unit at 2600.00
I paid 2150 for my Sammy 4665F LCD and its awesome....

i never look at how bright a tv looks because if they are really bright and high in contrast it is not realistic and is not good for the tv, causes it to run too hot causing premature burn out. always get a tv calibrated. i understand what you are saying about prices, just having seen all the tvs after calibration they look so much different and better.

in a few years almost every tv will be 1080p, as for receivers if you want the best you are looking at harmon kardon, mcintosh are nice, denons are nice and very easy to use, and pioneer elites. the harmon kardons are damn near untouchable though but are expensive.

Default Westinghouse 42" LCD

For the money, what do you guys think of the Westinghouse 42" 1080 LCD HDTV (TX-42F430S)? Best Buy appears to have the best price anywhere. Regular price is $1,299 and it was on sale last week for $1,099. I'm guessing it will be back on sale again in a few weeks.

Here's a link:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1181831586462

From the Bang-For-The-Buck standpoint, isn't this decent for a 1080p?

Not a big brand name but it looks nice and that is a very good price. All the goodies too - 1080P, 4 HDMI inputs and built-in ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuner sounds good!

it has everything you need, pc input, 1080p, hdmi inputs and everything else. i bet it looks great. unless your a max effort type of guy and your life revolves around every little detail of video and your placing this tv in the middle of a multi thousand dollar home entertainment setup, i really doubt extra money spent on other sets would be justified.

The Westys are very good units for the money..There processers are decent as is there screens and the TX line has NUMEROUS features,I almost bought it but decided to upgrade to the Sammy....

The Older Westy LVM line was a great unit but only a monitor and some people like having a tuner is there TV,If u can find a LVM 47in Monitor I would snap it right up..They dont have quite as many calibrations but they are 1080P and have a beautiful pic
