I've heard pf guys getting around 425 with ported ones on 347s.You can make them work pretty good but nevers as good as an aftermarket head.

can you help me understand the diffrences between an aftermarket vs stock? as far a good port job on stock.. why can you not make a stocker flow as well as a aftermarket?? sorry if these are dumb simple questions.. just do not understand the concept..

I will try to explane as best as possible.Three major factors control cylinder head flow, port size and shape, valve location, combustion chamber size and shape.
Port size and shape, aftermarket heads are designed with port size and shape for maximum flow-factory heads usually cant be modded to that same optimum size and shape due to the port already being to big in that area or the port walls too thin to be opened up to the correct size.
valve location, this includes valve angle, valve height, and loctaion in the cylinder, this for the most part is fixxed when the head is designed. The aftermarket heads have better valve locations that stock for more flow.
The last is also the easiest to change.Smaller narrower combustion chambers with shroud the valves during opening due to the walls of the chamber being close to the valves. If you can taper the walls of the combustion chamber away from with valves but no larger than the cylinder of the block you can get more flow, but when doing this with make the chamber bigger. You can weld the chamber smaller in non critical areas to make up the volume you removed and thus making a pretty good chamber. The aftermarket heads have got a well designed chamber from the start.
With that being said, you can problably weld the ports up from the stock heads and make them the same exact shape and size of the aftermarket heads, and you could move the valve angles and locations, but it would cost several thousand dollars to get a head that flows the same as ones you could get for 2000.00 and still have a thinner, weaker casting in the end.
Hope this helps.

Good info Shawn. Well, I am finally back!!! Thank God!!!! Things have been fucked up these past couple of weeks. I get off the boat a few days after I am supposed to and then 2 of my family members die. My grandfathers sister on the 23rd and one of my cousins gets murdered on Christmas day. Things haven't been great at all. Me, wifey, and rugrat finally had Christmas on the 29th. Just glad everything is over with and we are back home. See later today Shawn

Yeah, BShell made 420+rwhp with ported #853's. They are capable but completely wrong for your application. TFS 215's would probably be the maximum I would go with a "street" 383 stroker.

thanks man, everything was very unexpected. I hate this time of year anyway so it figures that bad things would happen.
