Default First ticket! need suggestions.

Alright, I'm 19 and have had my Z28 since 16 1/2. No tickets, No Violations.. Nothing! Tonight I take off from a red light get it upto about 4500/5000RPM and I see blue lights as I pass a unmarked cruiser. Pull over and of course the guy is a dick saying license and registration superstar .. Don't forget the whole Daytona 500 speech also!! So let me lay the ticket out for everyone bored enough to check out this thread.

Squealing Tires (noise & smoke) - Complete bullshit! I didn't even go WOT and even then with Torque management my car won't even chirp 1st-2nd!

Estimated 55+ in a 45MPH zone - I know I was not going over 55 not even close. Also I thought estimated speeds weren't official?

Also my registration is in my fathers name so he started to write that, scribbled it out then wrote mine.. is there anyway that can help me? I'm definitely fighting this, I'm pissed he wrote noise and smoke saying I spun tires.

was anyone in the car with you?

estimated speeds are not legit in court anywhere in the country. that will get thrown out easily. if he doesn't have some recordable reference for your speed, he has no way to prove it in court. without something solid, you could just ask him to submit the records for his eyes being calibrated for speed and see how he responds.

as far as the squealing tires thing, it is basically his word against yours. if you have a clean driving record you should be able to jsut fall back on that. pull the "sir, i have never had a ticket and i have been driving this car since i was on a permit."

good luck with it. if you know any lawyers, give them a shout and find out what can be done.

Definitely fight it, you basically have nothing to lose. What law exactly did he cite for squeeling tires? I had a cop cite me for "racing" for peeling out once, which is a huge fine and a 30 day suspension (I got it thrown out). Go to the link below and find the text of the law he used, read it carefully and see if you can find any inconsistency with what actually happened. Print it out and bring it with you to the hearing, this is what I did and I got two of three charges dropped this way.

Mass General Laws

You could try showing that your car has traction control which prevents wheelspin ( just don't tell them it can be turned off ). You also could try taking pictures of the road where it happened, if you didn't leave black marks you could argue he exaggerated.

i would deffinitly fight it i got one in OC durning the rod show for exibition of speed and spinning tires. i took it to court because at the time i had my GTO(slow) so i didn't play around to much down there to save myself the enbarrasment. well it was me and a T/A that took off from the light and the T/A got down. well he pulled us both over even though the T/A was three light ahead of me. he gave me that bullshit well i heard you leave the light and saw you speeding with him. first off seeing me speeding and not knowing my speed means im getting off of that charge. but i had a witness in the truck behind me that went and told the story. all the cop hear was my straight pipes and the nasty T/A so he pulled us both over with no prof. so i got lucky on that one.

what sucks about all this, is simply your age. The cops pick on young guys. Your 19, and probably look like it, so your a target. Its not fair, I went through the same BS when I was 19.

I also say fight it. I always do myself, I dont always win, but I will not take it without a fight. At least you would have tried!

Anyway, I agree, estimate speed, and smoking tires....I'm sur eyou'll be able to get everything reduced to a simple non-moving violation, or thrown out completly.

Just dont come off as a jerk in court/in front of the judge. the judge and DA will work with you if your a level headed young guy, and can state your case/defense well.

Yeah, can't stress the importance of being professional and courteous, and dress nice (business casual will work).

I Appreciate the insight from everyone, I'm definitely fighting this. I'm more pissed off the cop gave me attitude when I was being more than respectful considering the crap he gave me!

If I am not mistaken, the police have to follow certain standards when making a valid speed "estimation". A good traffic lawyer will probably be able to fire some holes in this case and at least get the charges reduced significantly. Your best bet is to hire a good lawyer and let him/her deal with it. It's worth it in the long run.

I agree get a laywer even though it cost more just get a lawyer. When you walk into the hearing with one they know that you are serious. And the lawyer can get you out of more things than going by yourself, and the judge knows it.
FYI when ever you get pulled over no matter what the reason allways act polite and everything is yes sir no sir the reason is so that you don't make a sceen and the officer won't remember you when the hearing comes up he will be less likely to object or press an issue about anything that goes on in the hearing, I got this info from my lawyer. And so far it's worked in my favor.

Always fight it, IMO you dont need a lawyer for something small like this, its not like you got a reckless or something and you have a clean record. Go to court see how things work and it will be a good learning experience for you.

i fight them all. Only time I had a recorded speed was from a statey w/ radar gun. Still got THAT lowered. As long you are honest, polite and you should be fine. Dress clean too. When in court, you always talk to the officer first. They'll ask why you are challenging it, I always say that I don't want to have the points. Usually works. Most cops will lower it to if you show up, since they see that you took time out of your day to show up in court. I've asked them all, how many people fight, and they said very few.
