Default Some progress on Mazda

I worked on the RX5.7 this weekend and got some things done. I got the motor and tranny all back together and dropped them in. This was surprisingly easy and I did it by myself. I just used a jack under the back of the tranny as I lowered the engine. I also mounted the radiator setup. The radiator is out of a older vette and the mounting setup is made by JTR. Before anyone asks, the motor consists of new main and rod bearings, ARP rod bolts, ARP main studs, LS2 timing chain, TReX cam, LS7 lifters, LS6 oil pump, hardened pushrods, Patriot dual gold springs, GM MLS head gaskets, GM head bolts, and a LS6 intake.
I have off school next week so I am going to mount the clutch master cylinder, install the drive shaft(after I get it shortened a inch), and start some wiring. I cant wait until I can drive it.

Yea the shifter does sit high.I plan to get a pro 5.0 and a shorter stick(steeda tri axis). The driveshaft is also about half the length of a fbody driveshaft.Theres only a few feet between the end of the tranny and the rear differential.I will try to update the thread whenever i work on the car.

Your gonna surprise a lot of folks w/ that car. Please tell me your gonna add some type of long tubes with a cutout. It's gonna be a riot hearing a LS1 w/ a Trex cam in an old RX7.

cool project, what kind of rear is in it?

Oh yes it will have 1 7/8" primary long tube headers on it with two 2 1/2" cutouts. The rear is a stock independent turbo rx7 rear.It is a clutch type limited slip with a 8 inch ring gear.4.10 gears. It is stronger than a 10 bolt and should last a while.....hopefully

Looks great!! I have a 91 RX7 that I just pulled the 350 Vortec from. I am now putting together a 2006 LQ4 that will replace it. I'm running a 2004-R auto.
Good luck with your project!!

Well the startup is near.Next sunday is the planned date. I got the lights and all the interior gadgets working.First time in over a year that the electric windows could come down.I started wiring in the engine harness and relocated the battery to the passenger side rear bin.I am sore from rolling around on the ground all weekend but it will be worth it when i hear the TReX cam through open headers for the first time.
Lights actually working finally.

BBK mustang headers with ls1 flanges and 3 inch v band collectors.

Wiring in the works.

Relocated Odessy pc680 dry cell battery. Only 16 pounds.

I got to fire the car up today for a few seconds. It fired right up and picked up oil pressure right away.I still need to finish some wiring, change the heater core and connect all the radiator hoses, run the vacuum lines(I just capped them off so i could start it),and make a intake.I figure i finished the easy part of the swap. Now the hard part is getting everything sorted and street legal.Hopefully within a month i can get a two year tag on the back if it.

Yes the motor fired right up with the tune. I only let it run for 15-20 seconds but it seems good so far.
I bought the whole driveshaft from grannies. It was an inch to long and did not look to be balanced so i had it shorted and balanced.
As far as the rear i will just upgrade if it breaks.I got a set of 275/40/17 MT DRs so i know they wont help.

I pulled the dash and relocated the heater core outlets to where the ac evaporator use to come through the firewall. This makes for a much cleaner install and prevents the heater hoses to run over the passenger valve cover. Here is a couple pictures:

Well i had an appointment with the exhaust shop today so the exhaust is done now. It is dual 3 inch with cutouts and magnaflow polished race mufflers at the back. 3inch in and a four inch tip. Everything tucks up in the car nicely. I actually have enough room to lower the car some. Here is some pictures from today.
