There is some good stories in here.
I remember when I started going, sunday nights were the big night. One night I was about to leave to go home 2:30 or so in the morning, and a pack of cars came down holstien. It was a orange el camino and a nissan 200sx with a sb? in it. I remember the race was spray to spray, and the nissan was one of Angelos cars. First time I ever seen stuff like that.
They still meet up there on sundays. New Years day 2012 purple orchid was PACKED. A lot of old heads with FAST cars. I took a lot of pictures.

I started going in mid 90's and saw first hand how the ricers killed it. In 2001 fast and furious came out and it was friggin ridiculous. In one of the neighborhoods near front street, a local kid got killed by ricers racing through one of the residential streets. I remember a bunch of locals started protesting in south philly afterwards. we'd drive by and they would let us have it. one lady had a picket sign that i will never forget that read "go back to atco you jersey rednecks" it was hillarious!
saw some crazy **** though. one night on columbus blvd there were all kinds of cars out. lambo's, porches, vipers, gnx, camaros, ta's,mustangs.......u name it, it was there. That peticular night they were all racing north bound on columbus....some *** clown on a crotch rocket hauls *** in the south bound lanes and wiped out hittin the median. i saw a couple bikers get killed.......usually doing stupid ****.
i really miss it though. my buddies and i lived there friday and saturday nights for years, just not the same anymore

This thread has brought back some memories.
Here was my powerplant in the 80's and early 90's when I raced Front Street and Delaware Ave.

I definitely recognize the cars and location. There's a pretty good chance I was there too... as I saw at least a couple people I know in the video.
We use to trailer our cars down from Pottstown and unload in the parking lot on the corner.
Some may remember the famous "Knopp's Yellow Chevelle" that was down there almost every weekend around that time. It's now Black and belongs to my brother Jerry.
Here's a clip of it on Pass Time in 2009:
A few other cars I remember paired-up with Pottstown cars were the "Bad to the Bone" 80's El Camino and a black 69 El Camino running J.W. in his tubbed blue Firebird in front of the Auto Mall.
There also seemed to be an endless supply of Fox body Mustangs, GN's and IROC Camaro's back in those days.
I'm 45 yrs old and those were some of the best times of my life.
Every winter we have a big Christmas party at Rubright Racing and watch VHS taped videos of our old street racing days. Much of it was done up here in Pottstown too. Guys would come from Philly, NJ and DE to race us out on Rt422.
What a ****** blast. Gives me chills every time I see these old vids.
