Get a 15.4" WXGA screen (don't worry it supports HD). You should be able to find a core 2 due w/ 3-4 gigs of ram and a 300+gig drive, with all the bells and whistles, for about a grand. I highly recommend getting one with DVI out. For battery life you will get about 6hrs. Look at Asus, Toshiba, stuff like that.
Then with all the moeny you saved not getting the giant 20' laptop you can now guy buy a nice 22" monitor and keyboard and hook up your DVI connection to it and it will look sweet when you dock it at home.
Ive had a MacBook pro 15.4" for a little over year now. I probobly would not have graduated school w/o it. All the computers in our studio were ****! I was not about to bring a whole desktop to school and back so I can do work.
Got the MacBook Pro. Loaded windows on it for Auto-CAD and 3D Studio Max, and never looked back! Everything else I do on the Mac side and never had an issue. I can have Photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3, Sketch-Up all running at once and no "hick-ups"
I am done with Windows based computers. Viruses, Pup-ups, constand instability, "Blue Screen of Death" **** it. Though I have a windows based desktop at home right now, and I use them at work, I will never again build another windows based machine. My next computer will be a Mac Pro. How can you go wrong with 8 cores and 16GB ram? LOL Windows XP 32 only reads 3.5GB and Windows Virus, I mean Windows Vista and XP 64 only read 8GB. Pfff!
