Anyone in here know Suzuki Kitana's at all
I am looking into buying a 91 kitana with approximately 20k. currently the bike wont start. Current owners mechanic believes it only to need plugs and a battery charge. Owner has a lot of recent work done fresh rebuild on carbs, new tires, brakes, exhaust, sprockets, oil, etc. Owner is asking for 800, and said he would settle for 600 if i'm seriously considering a purchase. KBB puts the bike as is valued at about 1300. I am new with bikes, but I am pretty handy.
My question is are there many problems with the kitana, especially pertaining the year. Is 20,000 miles a crapload of miles to have on a 750? I'm just looking for a decent beginner crotch rocket.
Bike has some cosmetic damage from being dropped while at idle (owners claim).
I'm driving to see it this weekend.
What do you guys think, if anyone needs pics to judge let me know. Bike looks decent if the owner will let it go for 600ish I think I'd be happy.
Need advice from the Ls1tech demographic. THanks in advance.

id charge the battery to see if she will start first... if you can at least get it to start.. good deal for 600... my cousin had an 89 katana.. all he had was problem.. but for what he paid, and it being a beginners bike.. it wasnt that bad..
i say he only had problem because i had a new cbr.. i NEVER had not ONE problem with it.. every month or so he was spending about 40 bucks on parts or this or that.. always tinkering.. but again, for the price...
if she starts, id but it.

The Katana 750 is a budget crotch rocket when new.The engine isn't bad and is actually from the 87 GSXR 750 (#1 bike in 87)which is oil cooled and pretty easy maintanance. The budget part is the frame, suspension and brakes. It is a good begginer bike and should be reliable.
Not starting could be easy or a pain.Figure plugs are easy to change,so why didn't they change them?
BTW,it's not Katana. They pronounce it Can-O-Tuna..

Steve (aka: 'Anonymous') knows Katanas (most Suzukis for that matter) very well, he's owns one of the rare '80s versions in good shape among other GS1100/1150 variations.
And a Harley.

Its probably something minor. I would start by replacing the plugs and battery. I have a 90 Katana 600 and a 95 750. Like stated above the 750 uses the previous GSXR motor. Mine has an exhaust, K&N filters and a jet kit and it isnt blazing fast but it is definately not slow when running right. I paid $700 for mine during the summer so $600 isnt a bad price if you can get it running.
