Only got pulled over once way back when I had the AVS snap on covers. Officer told me it was difficult to see my tail lights, so I took them off and he let me go with just a verbal warning. Eventually I ended up niteshading my lights and hadn't been pulled over for those for the couple of years that I had them. Basically just be smart about it and make sure you don't make them too dark.

It is a non-moving violation that can be punishable by a $91 fine. If you're lucky, you get a "Fix-it" ticket, which means you pay about $10 and take your vehicle to a law enforcement agency to prove you have fixed the problem. No points.

I have about 5 nice coats of niteshade on my tailights and havn't ever been pulled over... for my taillights. Ill see if I find a good picture(with alot of clear coat they almost match the black paint of the car it looks great.) If you do niteshade just sand the tails pretty good with maybe a 400 grit or so and that will help the light shine through no problem.
Edit- This is probably very dependent on where you live and normally drive though.

The problem is that any modification whatsoever can be cited for, and the Niteshade and AVS covers are a common target, because they interfere with others being able to see your tail lights. I used to have a Blazer with them on, and I didn't think they made much of a difference until an Officer showed it to me. My tail light visibility with the AVS covers on was probably cut in half, and for someone with vision problems, that's all you need for them to not see you.

I did nightshade on mine and didnt have a problem. I sold the taillights to a friend and for the 3 years he's had them, he's been pulled over once, but it wasnt for the taillights, the officer just mentioned them but didnt care. I think there are so many cars out there w/ them and so many other things wrong, FL cops do seem to be more layed back about that stuff so that they can catch people for the more serious things.
