I was just thinking the lq4 was the aluminum block and there were a couple years they had iron heads.............that's why I didn't bet my paycheck!

I have the lq9 and know that one is an iron block.

lq4's did have iron heads around 99. Ive always wondered how they would hold up to as a boosted head since the oem aluminum heads flex above 800whp.

iron block and heads, ls9 gaskets, ARP head studs = bring on the boost!

The trans that is hooked to this 6.0 out of the AWD Denali is real short bc it's made for a transfer case so it won't work in nothing but 4x4 and AWD trucks right? I'm assuming u couldn't put it in a Fbody right?

its still a 4l60e, just needs the correct tailshaft and maybe the output shaft. same everythign else though.

80's really only came in special vehicles like 2500-3500's and diesels. Also in bigger work utilities, but not much in the normal day to day vehicles.
I wonder what yr that guys 6.0 is? i can verify that it isnt. Like below is a 04 and the only availible transmissions were a 60/65e.

MANNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 245cc LSX Mongoose Strip Aluminum Cylinder Heads

i want this set of heads sooo bad im like flipping out! They flow over 360! (they told me more like 375!!) , 245 advertized intake cc(but really more like 255) and for 500 extra this guy promised me 15 cfm more with some hand porting. They are assembled with good valves too and a ls6 is recommended like i have already.. ughhh,.,,, i would make 150 whp JUST bolting these on!!! definietly with my new huge turbo..... MANNNNNNNNNNNN I was thinking about buying a vette but i dont know,i may just take the little money i have and buy these..

It does say 4l60e on housing I just confirmed it. The motor and trans is out of a 02 Denali XL AWD. I ran the casting numbers on block and it came back as lq4 and lq9. So there's no way u can tell the difference unless u pull the head to see pistons? What keeps somebody from selling u a lq4 and telling u it's a lq9? I bet there's a lot of people out there that think they have lq9s but really have lq4s.

yeah, just ran some more research and found out it is an lq4/4l60e combo. still well worth the asking price though

get some brake clean and clean off the block on the left side, kinda like where the starter would be but on the drivers side. if you understand me, theres a lazer eitched 8 digit number there. Give me that and ill tell you everything you need to know.

Ok thanks blingole, Its been posted for sale and I'm getting a lot of responses should be sold very soon. I'll post them block numbers tomorrow. What keeps someone from selling u a lq4 as a lq9 if the casting numbers are the same? Just wondering so I'll know if I ever buy a lq9?

Theres no way to tell other then that number i mentioned. Then even at that you have to be apart of gm dealerworld to know what that number means.

Anyways about it the only difference between lq4 and lq9 is a lq4 has a 5cc dish piston. Not much of a difference really.

Now the 04+ lq series engines has updated rods which has been proven to hold well above 750whp. Yet the earlier rods where around 550whp. Also some of the early 6.0s had a different crank, the area where the flywheel/flexplate bolt on was deeper then others.
