Default Weird Electrical Problem

Hey guys, im hoping someone has an answer to this problem ive been having. Its an 01 Z28 A4, about 108K miles. whats been happenning is when I put the keys in the ignition everything seems fine, then when i go to turn it over its as if someone just unplugged the battery and nothing happens. the battery is completely fine. Ill mess with the ground cable a little bit then it will start. When i figured that out i went ahead and put a new ground cable in (between the battery and the block). It was working fine for a while when I did the cable swap, but after a month or two it started doing the same thing, so Im not really sure what to think now. Another problem Ive been having is when im pretty high in the rpms i lose a lot of voltage (drops from 14 to around 10), usually happens around 4k rpms. Im not sure if these problems all relate directly to the alternator or what, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Does your security light stay on after system check? Does your lights flicker at 4k rpm?

may not be your problem but years ago had a Firebird that was eating up the shifter cables.
Turns out that the braided cable that goes from the block to the body was broken and the shifter cable was acting (or not) as a ground cable for the body. This is not the same as the one from battery to the block.
The cables with time will get corroded inside the connector and appear OK on the outside but wont conduct on the inside. Also check all your main ground connections.

If your car has the Security System with the "Chip" key, try this.

I Had a "dead key" problem on an A4 '98 T/A, that I owned a while back equipped with the Factory Security system..

I was advised to use my other "Chip" key as do to less use, it may solve the problem,
and It did.

I havent checked about the security light but Im pretty sure it stays on, it acts completely normal. When im higher in the rpm band they dont really flicker but I notice the dash lights dim quite a bit.

When i was under the car i was looking around for ground cables and found the braided cable on the drivers side of the block I went ahead and sanded down the ends of the cables and the body. the car started up fine but im going to go ahead and get a new one and see if that helps. when it was running i was revving it a little to see how the voltage reacted and it was fine when it was revving (only took it up to about 3k) but when it came back down to idle the voltage would drop to about 11-12 then come back to 13-14.

I didnt even think about the key being the issue, that would be awesome if that was the problem and very strange based on the way the car is reacting. I wont be able to try that out until the weekend though.

Thanks for the responses.

i have the exact same problem with my car...

My voltage seems to be weird...

I went through an alternator and a new battery to no avail.

Then re grounded the battery and still nothing.

My car voltage is so iffy when driving i swear it's ready to give out.
