Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Anthony Langhorn was thrown from his white 2000 Chevy Camaro when he lost control for unknown reasons and veered into westbound traffic.
Langhorne hit a silver 1999 Chevy Prism, seriously injuring a 16-year-old driver identified as Robb Hartman, of Sorrento. Langhorn's car was split in half in the crash.
Friends and family huddled by the roadside as investigators tried to determine why Langhorne lost control of his car.
Langhorne was not wearing a seat belt, but Hartman was, troopers said.
Hartman was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Troopers will investigate to see if alcohol was involved in the crash.
