Diagnostics Help
Anybody in Central Florida available to help me figure out what happened to the car? Car is a '98 TA, stock except for mid-length headers, just turned 100k.
Problem:
I noticed a miss at idle a couple of times, but the car ran fine. Yesterday it started running like a tractor, feels like it's running on 5 or 6 cylinders only. I don't have any way to test anything myself other than look at the plugs or change fuel filter.
Any suggestions? Anybody available for me to bring the car by?

Take an hour, pull the intake, and look at the intake ports on the heads...if there's a lot of oil in and around the port, you may have been comsuming excess oil which could have caused detonation...be careful not to break of the oil pressure sending unit!
Best way is to let a shop with a scanner or tech II take a look.

I don't have a gauge to check fuel pressure, will have to get one. Fuel filter has been replaced, don't remember where I bought the last tank of gas from, haven't used any cleaners such as seafoam.... Might have to do that this weekend, or the chrysler cleaner....

Have you had the ECM scanned yet to see whats up? Is there and SES or Check Engine light on?
Usually is there are misfires it will set a code and a Tech2 will tell you exactly which cylinder(s) it is.
A broken or bad valve spring can also cause what you have going on.
Bad oxygen sensor reading, false lean or false rich, can cause improper fueling on one side of the engine.
Definitely get it scanned as it will take out a bunch of guess work.

The pics i posted are from a cell-phone camera, but do I need to do anything about the build-up in the intake ports? The intake itself is pretty clean...

corvet786c, I am thinking it will most likely be early October. Quite a few race weekends coming up next month, and then a trip to the country of Panama for a week to work on a new Z06 along. Between these trips and with things here being quite busy has my time alloted pretty far out for now.
chobes, just a good cleaning with some rags will be fine on the intake and ports for now. Was the SES light on?? let us know what you kind out after scanning her.
