Default Where to go for transmission work?

i need to know where to go for transmission work near ocala...i want to get new synchros and a steel 3-4 shift fork...tranny has near 100k miles and grinds 3rd and 4th often and is now occasionally grinding 2nd...and 1st can sometimes be a little difficult to get in but that's pretty rare...i've been quoted 1900 from a couple shops...and i've been told that labor should be near 250 not 1700...haha so if anyone know where to go please enlighten me

You should take it to Lamotta Performance in Orlando. Jake Lamotta is the best tranny guy around with M6(T56), he is a long time dragracer and knows his **** .

I'm not sure of anyone local to you but Next Level Performance in Altamonte Springs is worth a try.

I'd second Jake for a T56 rebuild. I've known a few people who have had them rebuild their T56s and T5s. Work was flawless, quick, and the bill was fair.

There is no shop in the area(Florida) that does good work on 4L60 trannys. Next Level Perf. uses several good tranny builders, I have used Century Trans out of Houston,Tx for my tranny rebuilds every 3 or 4 years. Century, Rossler and FLP are probably the best to go with.

Another vote for Jake Lamotta if you can't find anyone closer. He typically charges $250+tax for the labor, plus whatever parts you desire to have replaced/upgraded. He can order them for you, or you can have them drop-shipped to him. Busy guy, small shop. Definitely need an appointment.

NLP usually takes their M6's to Jake, btw.

Action Performance in Daytona had my redone. The labor cost 250.00 for a complete rebuild with the viper output shaft.

How do you know the gears themselves are bad? It's likely just a bad synchronizer assembly.

Peace,
Josh

Yeah I bet you probally dont need another case. Your tranny will probally be fine once you have it torn apart and rebuilt.

honestly i don't...but 3rd gear won't stay in half the time...i'll go to shift and it will go in...then i'll start letting the clutch out and it will pop out...some times i'll hold it there and it will make a popping noise then start grinding...but it happens about every 10 times i shift into third...dino at revx also said that i would have to get 3rd gear replaced at the very least...i'll prolly call up daytona and see what's going on...i can use it as an excuse to go to the beach...anyone have an idea on how much money this is going to cost...i've been quoted 2000-2500 from revxtreme...and about the same from norris...i haven't checked to much locally but one (i can't remember name) was about 2000 for the rebuild...is that basically what i am going to be looking at or is it going to be cheaper...i need 3-4 steel shift fork as well as the rebuild...

Basically you are looking at $300-350 for the trans R&R, $250 or so for the trans rebuild labor plus parts, sealer and fluids. Parts can range from as little as approx $700 to $1500 or more if you want to get more exotic and use cryo treatments.

A average 3-4 shift issue repair is in the $1600 area approx with all labor and parts, but hard to say until you get the trans opened up. This includes new blockers, synchros, steel 3-4 shift fork, sealer, seals and fluids.

I have done up to $3000 builds depending on what is broke and what the customer is trying to do. Then of course there are the clutch questions as well as the hydraulics.

Hope this helps.
