Default Cam install

Being that I am completely green when it comes to V8's what's the going rate in Florida for a cam install? Is it adviseable to go ahead and do a head swap at the same time?

I have done cams as cheep as 250.00, including valve train, but i am Crestview, FL. Heads is another, more expensive, story all together... pull the engine out to get the accurate torque specs on the heads $$$. DO NOT FORGET HEADERS AND A QUALITY 3 INCH + EXHAUST SYSTEM!

Very true, plus the cost of the tune.
Normal labor if probally 400-500 on a cam swap alone as it is a dime consuming job.
then add 50 bucks if you do a timing belt, and maybe another 100 bucks if you add springs for the cam.
Plus 500 for tuning.
If you have the funds for the heads go for it. Maybe an additional 300-500 to swap the heads at the same time.

Yeah I'd prefer to have somenoe do it as opposed to a shop for that reason. I'm down for helping, I'm just not comfortable with tackleing it myself. I'm the man at a DOHC swap, but we're not talking about anywhere near the same beast.. lol

if you can do a DOHC swap, then a cam swap is easy. if you need to pay someone to do it for you, then step away and let the experienced person go for it. helping just gets in the way

I just did a head swap on my honda due to a worped head, it was SOHC. Not terribly diffficult. If you can do that the cam swap is easy, springs are the worst part.

I'm a bit confused by this. You're saying since I can handle an import cam swap, I should be able to handle one on my LS1? Maybe it's just the thought of the job that scares me. Seems like it would be a PITA

it's not that hard as long as you can set aside time. Don't rush things, that's when you have problems. Make sure you have a few days to work on it. You'll get tired and frustrated at times and that's when you need to go to bed or quit. Otherwise you'll do crappy work and reap the consequences later.

I will do it for 300, nothing less. Its a good amount of time involved.
If you want springs that will be a little more as 1/2 the top end has to come apart.
PM me for details.

nothing cheap about a cam install. esp when consdering you need Headers, catback, springs, pushrods, and a tune MINIMUM for the setup to work properly.

I knew there was nothing cheap about it. I'm just trying to weigh my options as to going with the STS setup, or just doing a bolt-on's cam, and some nice wheels and tires.
