June 22, 2000 | An American man who beat his dog to death, thinking the pet was a "homosexual," was quickly convicted of animal cruelty this week in a Florida courtroom.
The homophobic owner, George Stephens Finley, 58, apparently became upset when his dog General Lee, a poodle-Yorkie mix, kept humping another of Finley's dogs, a male Jack Russell terrier.
"He felt that the dog was a queer-type dog and it made him angry," sheriff's Capt. Mike McQuaig said later.
After listening to her husband complain about the dogs' behavior, Finley's wife told him, "Well, then, you make them stop."
Prosecutors say that Finley grabbed a vacuum cleaner wand, beat the dog and then threw it against a tree. The animal lapsed into a coma, and a veterinarian was forced to put it to sleep.
The woman divorced Finley after the incident, reported news services, in a move that probably should have happened a long time ago.
During the court proceedings in Ocala, Fla., a veterinarian testified that the dog had been neutered, and that its behavior was not necessarily sexual at all but something that dogs often do to assert their dominance.
Nevertheless, Finley's defense attorneys made the outlandish claim that the dog's death was just an accident. The jury took only 35 minutes to determine otherwise and convicted Finley of abusing his own pet. He faces a year in prison, where his homophobic inclinations will surely be put to the test.

And there are some sick people out there. Was in VOP hearings the other day and listened to one guy try and plea that he was being good, although he moved and never told his probation officer. Judge had enough of him saying how good he was and let everyone know his original charge......."sexual relations" with a dog

Sorry...I'll be more specific
. There is no "law" per se against beastiality in the state of florida. But you will be charged with "animal cruelty"...usually felony...if it is discovered. And you may even be charged with L&L or exposure depending on how it was discovered and who saw you. Now whether that charge will stick or not in court will be determined by the judge, whether the state prosecutor will go with it or plea to something lower, and/or how good the defense lawyer is. It's not as if I saw someone screwing sparky I'd be like "oh well, there's no specific law against sex with dogs, so i'll just let him go", nope doesn't work that way. He'll be taking a ride for animal cruelty, and I'll be justified for making that arrest. The whole discussion about making a specific law is because sometimes people will get off with a lessor charge if they have a good lawyer. But I believe these people need to see a pyschiatrist much more than they need to be behind bars.
Being behind bars would most likely cause the persons issues to get worse rather than 'corrected'.
Then again, too many people get to see shrinks for a few months when they should've been hanged by the ***** or imprisoned for life.
