Default FLT or Performabuilt 4L60E

I want to put a built tranny in my trans am, the Performabuilt lvl2 is nice, but i have heard of several issues with them, but there customer service is suposed to be very nice in fixing these problems, and on the other side is FLT, which have always seemed bullet proof. Whats the better tranny?

Why don't you find someone local to build the trans, buy all the parts and see if someone knows the ins and outs of the 60E trans,

neither. esp adding the cost of shipping. i would ONLY recomend Transmission Physicans in tampa, fl. they are not a sponsor so you will have to search for their info or someone might PM you to their info. TP is the only shop locally that is standing behind the work with a "power adder" warranty + holding up to 10 second street cars. if you have any issues with your tranny i wouldnt want to ship it for XXX dollars!

I have never heard of Performabuilt but FLT is the same company as FLP, I have seen 2 FLT trannys break at the track this year and several in the past, worst trannys built in my book.
If your looking for someone local to build the tranny my friend Greg is an excellent transmission builder and has the fastest 4L60 Fbody that runs consistantly in the 9s , I can PM you his shop name and phone# as he is not a sponsor
Century Transmissions and Rossler Transmissions are the most well known racing tranny builders for 4L60s.

I went with the rock on trans level IV, that thing crapped out on me 4 months later. I sent it to Vince & Chuck over at FLT and went with the level V trans... If this one breaks, Im going to sale the damn car! this is the 3rd time I had to do the tranny in less then one year! So, the FLT one better do the trick!

you get what you pay for. if he is not charging shipping or core, then its coming out of somewhere. think about it. you are getting a stock rebuild. good luck. i only tell someone once.

Well, mine better not. If it does, Im sending it back overnight to their shop...

I have confidence in FLT... They found several things wrong with my rock-on trans. Like I said before, I personally know a handfull of guys with FLT trans, and they all have more power then I do and no problems what so ever..

I laugh at people who truly think a shop can sell a "built" tranny for $1500. That's a joke, I bet you that it breaks within 3 months. I now will only endorse Transmission Physicians in Tampa. I have beat my 4l60E to death for 2 years and not one issue. The difference here is the shop is not telling you how great they are, the customers are. What shop is gonna say " well we kinda suck and our **** does not last" ? They are selling you something, you know shops/business lie right?

Every FLT or FLP (same company and why`d they change their name) tranny that I`ve seen raced 5 or 6 of them have broken.

Actually I just found this post and yes we can sell the trans we have for the prices we do because we are not buying one part at a time and one core at a time , our average daily parts order along is in the 1000s and we get cores a couple hundred at a time, We are big enough to do that as we are part of a larger company , You would probably be amazed at the price you can get a zPACK for if you buy 200 at once.
Our website states very clearly whats in our transmissions and is very exact. You can read our warranty and its the best in the bussiness try comparing it to others side by side, Do we ever have a failure sure its hi performance it happens and when it does we take care of it. No bull or excuses if and or buts. Overall our failure rate is very low in the single digits percent wise with over 500 sold in the past 6 months, We are not some small couple guys building transmissions we have a whole crew. 7 day a week full time tech support from 9 am till 1 am eastern time and I did say 1 am.
We are quite a different company you will see more as time goes on.

if the performabuilt 4L60e breaks under a race condition (heavy nitrous use), it sounds like the company will stand behind it. will your shop pay for R&I and shipping if your product fails? that is my biggest concern with members who buy big dollar products and have to ship them.

monster motorsports is not a sponsor but they are in florida. i have one of their 700r4 in my sbc355 s-10 they guarentee it will hold 700n/a hp. it has seen some pretty heavy abuse and a lot of nitrous and its still as stong as the day i put it in. but i would say perfomabuilt. i had a tech question a week or so ago with my shift solenoids i dont even own one of his products yet. but no matter he was more than willing to point me in the right direction. for that i give you this +1 performabuilt ftw
